Obituary For Jerry Canady

Services for Jerry Wayne Canady, 73, of Sherman, Texas who passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Texoma Medical Center, will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 10am at Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman. Pastor Chris Moses of Fairview Baptist will officiate. The family will greet friends at Dannel Funeral Home on Monday, May 15 from 6-8pm. Burial for Mr. Canady will be held at 2pm on Tuesday at Bokchito Cemetery in Bokchito, Oklahoma. Jerry was born September 4, 1943 in Dallas, Texas to Lon and Evelyn Canady. He was raised in different places around the country because his father was in the military. When Jerry was just 17, he enlisted in the US Army and loved serving his country. He volunteered for Vietnam in 1968 and was in country during the TET Offensive. Upon coming home, Jerry met the love of his life, Linda Ticknor, and within a couple of months they were married. It was a whirlwind romance and they would raise 2 children, Melissa and Brian, and have 48 years of marriage. After returning from spending 22 years in the US Army, he worked for the Pony Express in Sherman until they closed the doors. Jerry loved his family and he loved his church. He was a deacon at Fairview Baptist and was as faithful as a man could be to both his family and church. Jerry also loved to garden. He grew numerous vegetables and spent a lot of time tending his garden. Jerry had a companion for many years named Brooks, the golden retriever. Jerry is beloved by his family and friends and he will be greatly missed. Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda; son: Brian Patrick Canady of Denison; daughter: Melissa Ann Berry and husband Danny of McKinney; Nephews: Russell Cooper and Michael Goerdel, 6 grandchildren: Sam Berry 23, Sydney Berry 18, Kailyn Canady 17, Jaiden Canady 16, Shelden Berry 16 and Noah Canady 15, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jan Canady, and his golden retriever and best friend Brooks. Pallbearers for Jerry will be Tom Hagy, Morris Royal, Steven Ticknor, Casey Ticknor, Ron Marshall and Mark Isakson. You may sign the online guestbook at www.dannelfuneralhome.com.

    I think Jerry was one of the nicest person that I have met and that goes for Linda too. I got to see what a caring person he was when he came to see Doris Neal years ago. He reminded me of my brother and I just loved him and he will be missed so much. May God bless Linda and all his family and have peace and comfort at this time.
