Obituary For Jerry Harlan

Services for Jerry Harmon Harlan will be held 10:00 a.m. on Thursday July 19 2012 at Western Heights Church of Christ in Sherman with Danny Huntsman officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Mr. Harlan died on July 14 2012 at Texoma Medical Center of Denison from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Visitation was held at Dannel Funeral Home on Wednesday July 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Marshall Skiles Wayne McCarley Mark Akins Buck Bennett Mike Fallon Doug Lamb. If desired please make donations of books to Elementary Schools in Southmayd in Jerry Harmon Harlan"¢s memory. Jerry Harmon Harlan ââ?¬" born June 10 1939 in Goree Texas to Eleazer Vernon Harlan Jr. and Lily Faye Culwell Harlan. The family moved to Southmayd Sherman in 1947. Jerry attended Southmayd Schools and graduated with Salutatorian Honors in 1957. He was a member of Friendship Methodist Church. Jerry married Mary Elliott of Sherman in 1959 and they had two children Don and Mary Martha who blessed him with 4 grandchildren. He attended Austin College from 1957 ââ?¬" 1960 and earned a B.S. degree in business from East Texas State University in 1962. Jerry attended Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. Jerry began his career in banking in 1962-67 as V.P. of Grayson State Bank. In 1967-73 he was Owner and Manager of Sherman Implement Company a John Deere dealership. From 1971-73 Jerry was V.P. of Howe State Bank and in 1973 became the President and Director of Howe State Bank. Jerry retired from banking and worked with George Bradley Inc. from 1980-89. Throughout his career in banking Jerry was also a farmer and cattle rancher since the 1960"¢s. Jerry went to work for his dear friend Wayne McCarley as Vice President and Sales Executive for M & M Grouting Inc. in 1989 and retired January 2012. Jerry met Deborah Huntsman on Dec. 4 1999 and they were married on February 26 2001. Together they had a family of 5 children and 15 grandchildren. Jerry adored his family. His son Don was his best friend. Deborah traveled any time she could with Jerry and they had many pleasure trips. Travel was a huge part of Jerry""¢s life. Working at M & M Wayne and Jerry together with their crews traveled to many parts of the world. He and Wayne went through everything from monsoon rains to natural disasters as in the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Phillipines. This and their many travels brought all who knew him many stories and tales. Jerry loved to tell of his adventures whether they be from working or just pleasure trips. Jerry and his friends made many bike rides together too. His most favorite of all though were trips he shared with his son Don. Jerry was a giver whether gas or money for someone in need or advice or mentoring to anyone that asked or teaching grandkids to swim or fish. He loved sharing anything he could. He was loved by co-workers customers friends and family. His passing will leave a void no other could ever fill. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents E.V. Harlan Jr. & Lily Faye Culwell Harlan wife Mary Elliott Harlan. He is survived by his wife Deborah Harlan of Sherman, son Don Elliott Harlan and wife Lee Harlan of Denison granddaughters Catie and Sarah Harlan and grandson Jamie Butler, Daughter Mary Martha Russell and husband Paul Russell Plano and grandsons Michael and Christopher, Step children Joey Welch and wife Melissa of Sherman grandsons Justin Darren Matthew granddaughters Elizabeth and Emily, Tiffany Lux and husband Ryan of Sherman granddaughters Kelsey Ava and Atley and grandson Chance, and Greg Bader of Sherman grandson Kason.
