Obituary For Jesse McKnight

Our Daddy, Jesse Loyd McKnight, 92, of Sherman, TX, went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2014. He was born October 19, 1921, in Sasakwa, Oklahoma, to O.T. and Jimmie McKnight. As we tearfully say goodbye to our wonderful Daddy, ‘Prince Charming’, he is being reunited with his ‘Snow White’, his wife of over 66 years, Marie Dunahoo. They truly were a fairytale couple, even with all they had to deal with. They met each other on the Bonham Town Square in front of the picture show. They were married June 1, 1941, in Bonham, TX. As a young man, our Daddy worked on farms, the CCCamps and served in World War II as a Weapons Specialist and Paratrooper. Over the course of his career, he was stationed in Texas, Georgia, Arkansas, Utah, England, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany and Africa. Loyd worked at the Sherman Iron Foundry for many years, and then retired from Hitchcock Industries. He was always a family man who worked very, very hard to provide for his family. No family ever had a better Daddy. They broke the mold when God made him. He was truly ‘one of a kind’. Loyd took pride in graciously taking loving care of his wife for 66 years and 8 months, especially in the last years of her life. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, O.T. and Jimmie McKnight, and siblings: Leoma, Dale, Olen, Glen, Calvin, Juanita, Sybil, Ozzie and Gene. He is survived by his children: Anita Adams, Jerry McKnight, Phyllis Thompson and Cheryl Roberson, along with their respective spouses: James, Becky, Jerry and Jesse; grandchildren: Shelley Martin, Jamy Stumbaugh, Kevin Adams, Jeremy and Justin Thompson, and Kourtney Roberson; seven great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves one much loved brother, Dearle McKnight and wife Doris, one sister-in-law Juanita McKnight, and numerous nieces and nephews. We shall miss his presence, his quiet simple wisdom and his fine example of a good and decent man. Daddy – go joyfully into the endless deep that is the love of God, and know our love goes with you. We will forever honor your name and cherish all our memories of you until the day we are reunited again. Graveside services and interment are scheduled for 1:00 Tuesday afternoon, March 11, 2014, at Carson Cemetery in Ector, TX. Pastor Danny Wood of West Sherman Baptist Church will officiate. Loyd’s family would like to express gratitude to Drs. Woods, Reynolds and Wynn for their care.
