Jo Smith, 64, of Sherman, passed away Tuesday morning, November 4, 2014, at The Homestead of Sherman. Her family will receive friends at Dannel Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, November 5, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 6, at Trinity Lighthouse in Denison with Rev. Brian Ulch officiating. Interment will follow immediately afterward in Georgetown Cemetery. Jo was born November 5, 1949, in Bonham, TX, to William M. and Eva Mae Lewis Chrisman. She was raised, and attended school in Pottsboro, TX. On June 9, 1967, Jo was married to James Smith in an outdoor ceremony at Preston Shores. They were blessed with two sons, Gerald and Michael. Full of compassion, and always eager to help, Jo was a homemaker and caregiver in the truest definition. Whether for a friend, a relative, a stray puppy, or a bird that had fallen from its nest, Jo was ready to lend a hand of support wherever needed. In recent years, nothing could brighten her smile quite like visiting with her grandchildren. In her leisure, Jo was an avid reader, an arts/crafts experts, and an intense crossword puzzle ace. Until her health dictated otherwise, Jo - with her husband's help - loved to deliver the daily Herald Democrat to all the schools in the Sherman ISD - 14 campuses to be exact. Preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry Wayne Gas, and sister Martha Ann Hamilton, Jo is survived by her beloved husband James; son Gerald Smith and wife Stacie, son Michael W. Smith and Danetta; sister Bertha Pence; grandchildren Landrie, Colt, Michael G., Michaela, and Zane Orion; numerous nieces/nephews and a host of dear friends. In lieu flowers and other remembrances, Jo's family would be most appreciative of donations to assist with her final expenses.
