I met John through my grandfather, John Herman who owned Herman Motel (Ray Courts Motel)on South Travis street. I had 14 acres around the motel that John used for cattle and crops. I'd been out to their farm on FM 1417 many times with my Grandpa. Met his Dad J.O. and wife Pat. Fished in their ponds on the farm. Never met a bunch of nicer people than the Turleys. ~ Jeff Herman, Yantis, Texas

John and I knew one another from our teenage years. I always enjoyed being in his company, as he treated everyone as if they might be as smart as he, but we all knew we weren't. I did like the fact that if you were in John's present, you knew how he felt about any subject, brought up. He was just an all round Great Guy and he'll be sorely missed. I am proud to say, he was my friend. J.D. Miller Sherman, Texas ~ Jerry Miller, Sherman, Texas

In 1978 my Dad got a job at Texas Instruments, so we packed up, sold all our race car stuff and moved to Van Alstyne. Not long after he met John Turley. He was a very good and gracious man who helped my Dad out several times while he worked towards getting a race car together, guiding him towards the right people to purchase parts from when we lived in Texas. We were only there for a year, then moved back to Pennsylvania. For some reason I decided to do an online search for him to find out if he were still racing. I was saddened to find out that he had passed away this past spring. RIP. ~ Gary Ferringer, Kennerdell, Pennsylvania
