Johnny Charles Hammer, 80, of Sherman, passed away Thursday, June 5th, at his home. Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 9th, in Akers Cemetery in south Sherman. Rev. Don Russell, of Pathway Church of God, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Bill Lee. Johnny was born July 28, 1933, in Little Rock, AR, to Alford C. and Annie Springer Hammer. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1955. He married Marie Sales on April 9, 1954, in Weatherford, TX. He devoted many years of his life in ministry as a traveling evangelist and song leader in churches around the country. In recent years, he had worshipped at Pathway Church of God in Sherman. In his retirement, he also enjoyed gardening and hand-crafting wooden animals. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, brother A.C. Hammer, sisters Evelyn MIles, Wanda Milam and Mary Parker. He is survived by his loving wife Marie, children: Michael Hammer, Johnathan Hammer, David Hammer(Bridget) and Julia Ritter(Daryl), all of Sherman; brothers: Lonny Hammer(Betty) of Haltom City, and Danny Hammer(Peggy) of Ft. Worth; grandchildren: Angela Weaver(Charles), Janeen Mason(Chad), Julia Vandergriff(Simon), Johnna Yowell(Brandon), Ariel Hammer, Blake Hammer, Johnathan Ryan Hammer and Jacob Hammer; great-grandchildren: Jewel Mason, Shelby Mason, Elizabeth Mason, Angelina Weaver and Elisha Mason.
