Obituaries

Mrs. Johnnye Cordell, 92, of Sherman, passed away Saturday, January 25th in Chickasha, Oklahoma, where she had recently relocated to be near family. A graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30th in West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Reid Kirk, of Fairview Baptist Church, officiating. Johnnye was born March 11, 1921 to John and Elva Langston in Melbourne, Arkansas. She moved to Grayson County in 1927, where she lived the remainder of her life. She was educated in Sherman and Grayson County schools. She married Robert Cordell in 1947 and they enjoyed 67 remarkable years together before his death. Johnnye retired from General Telephone and Telegraph after 38 years of service. She loved her job and took great pride in the fact that she never missed a single day of work – nor was she ever late – in her entire 38 year career. Johnnye was a delightful lady who will missed by the several nieces and nephews she leaves behind.
