Obituary For Jonell Moffett
Jonell Black Moffett, age 92, of Sherman, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 4th, 2021 at her home here in Sherman while surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 8th, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas with Todd Catteau of Park Avenue Church of Christ, and David Wilson of Western Heights Church of Christ officiating. Burial was at West Hill Cemetery.
Jonell was born December 25th, 1928 to Jesse and Erma Lee Black. She attended Sherman schools. She then graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1952. She married Troy Moffett of Clarendon, Texas on October 23, 1954 at Grand Avenue Church of Christ in Sherman. Her professional vocation was primarily that of being a stay-at-home mother, but prior to that she worked as primary grade school teacher in Dumas, Texas for five years. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and most recently attended at Western Heights here in Sherman.
Jonell was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Erma Lee Black, her husband, Troy Moffett and her brother Jesse Black, Jr. Jonell is survived by her children Brent Allen Moffett of Trenton, Texas and Shelly Calvert of Sherman, along with her spouse, Gary Calvert. She had two grandchildren, Cortney Calvert-James of The Colony, Texas and Brandon Calvert of Sherman, along with their spouses Justin James and Brittni Calvert. She also had two great-grandsons Easton James and Braxten Calvert. Additionally, she is survived by her three sisters, Helen Jones-Mitchell of Tyler, Texas, Martha Shaw of Denver, Colorado and Annette Foster of Rockwall, Texas along with her husband, Jack Foster. She has numerous nieces and nephews, along with countless friends and acquaintances from her 92 years here on earth.
Pallbearers were David Foster, David Frost, Aaron Wilson, Jeff Chesier, Giles Brown and Wayne Keene
Memorials may be given to Children’s Home of Lubbock, as this organization held a tender spot in both Troy and Jonell’s heart as they were instrumental in the adoption of their two kids, Allen and Shelly, and through the years they continued their support as they influence numerous children and their families each year.
