SHERMAN-- Joyce Marie McLain, 88, of Sherman, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Homestead of Denison. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Grayson Bible Baptist Church in Sherman. Rev. Paul Ebert, Associate Director of New Hope Initiative and son-in-law of Mrs. McLain will officiate. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Friday. After the service interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Dannel Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Joyce was born in Canton, Mississippi, to Cecil Otis and Bertha Ann Ross on March 11, 1929. She was raised in Mississippi and the family moved to the Bonham area when she was young. She was a hard worker who cleaned houses for many families. As a longtime member of Grayson Bible Baptist Church, she loved her church and found meaning in serving God. She was also a very social and outgoing person who enjoyed playing “Bunco.” On any given day Joyce could be found enjoying her coffee, laughing with her sisters and caring for her multitude of cats. A gifted storyteller, Joyce was also a skilled artist who loved to paint and draw even though she never received any formal training. She enjoyed dancing, and Conway Twitty was her favorite singer. Devoted to her family, she was Joyce, Mom, Memaw, and beloved Aunt Shawa to those who knew her best, and all of them will sorely miss her. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters, and her husband. She is survived by her son, Skeeter McLain and wife Tiana of Sherman; brother, Steve Ross of Sherman; five grandchildren: Tina Ebert and husband Paul of Missouri, Sonny McLain and wife Katherine of Texas, Misty McLain of Texas, Skyler Eades of Texas, and Dusty McLain of Texas; eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
