Obituary For Julia Furr
Julia Anne Bentley Furr, 89, of Sherman, passed away March 31st, at Texas Health Presbyterian/WNJ. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2nd, at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, with Johnnie Smith of Parkside Baptist Church in Denison, officiating. Julia was born January 4, 1925 in Brownwood, Texas, to Richard Ellis Bentley and Rowena Ezell Bentley. She was a 1942 graduate of Sherman High School, and subsequently completed several accounting courses at Grayson County College. She was Lifetime Member, with over 60 years of active service, in Beta Sigma Phi. She was also a member of Professional Secretaries International. She married Robert E. Furr on January 4, 1944. They enjoyed over fifty years of marriage before his death in 1996. Mrs. Furr was a charter member of Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church/Denison, formerly Hyde Park Baptist Church, where she was a longtime leader in WMU. Mrs. Furr was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brother, Robert Bentley of Denison. She is survived by her son Lelon Furr of Sherman; two sisters: Sallie Sue Caylor and husband Bill, of Denison, and Bettye Lee Joiner and husband Joe, of Houston; two special nieces: Suzette Henderson and husband Jeff, and Vicki Bentley and husband Scott. Also left to mourn, are nieces/nephews: Barb Caylor, Chris Caylor, Chad Bentley and wife Mary, Ricky Kirkpatrick, Jodie Bentley and Liz Hill; five cousins and several great-nieces/nephews, and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorial donations to the church or charity of donor’s choosing. Prior to the service, Mrs. Furr will lie in state at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. No formal visitation is planned.
