Obituary For June Lucas
June Prince Lucas passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017. Graveside services will be conducted at the West Hill Cemetery in Sherman, Texas on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 10:30am. The family will greet friends at 9:00am until 10:30am prior to the service at Dannel Funeral Home. June Prince was born on August 4, 1931 to Melvin and Maggie Parton Prince in Bells, Texas. She graduated from the Bells High School in 1949. June married Jim Lucas, the love of her life on June 1, 1952. Together they travelled the world with the United States Air Force for the next 28 years and lived in Texas, Louisiana, England, New Mexico, Virginia, Florida, Germany and Okinawa before settling down in Wichita Falls. They celebrated 57 anniversaries before Jim’s death in 2009. Following the death of their daughter, Denice, June returned to the workforce as an Air Force civil servant at Sheppard AFB and the Navy in Okinawa before returning to Sheppard AFB where she eventually retired as the TMO Chief of Personal Property on June 3, 1993. June was an active member in the Wesley United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls and moved to Sherman in 2010 to be closer to her family. After moving to Sherman she attended, Key Memorial United Methodist Church, Jim’s childhood church. June was preceded in death by Jim, her beloved husband, on November 12, 2009; her daughter Denice on November 19, 1970; her adopted daughter, Kay Lucas Phares on February 27, 2008; her older brother, Gene Prince on May 1, 1977 and her older sister, Melba Kratch on July 10, 2014. June is survived by her son David and his wife Christine of Royse City; her twin sister Jane and husband Ralph Mattingly of Sherman; Brother In Law Bill Lucas of Baytown and five grandchildren; Darla Obanion of Burleson, Texas, Scot Lucas of Wahiawa, Hawaii, Rebecca Christian, Rachel Phares and Brandon Phares of Louisiana. She has five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Any donations or memorials may be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County.
