Obituary For Katherine Graves

Katherine L. Graves, 96, of Whitesboro, and formerly of Sherman, died November 3, 2015, at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015, at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Jerry Carver will officiate. Katherine was born November 7, 1918, in Anna, TX, to Carl and Myrtle Mae Cooper Lair. She graduated from Anna High School, and Neilson Beauty College in Dallas. In 1941, she was married to James Roy Graves, Jr. They enjoyed over 30 years together before his death in 1972. She worked at Neimann-Marcus, and also at Mercantile Bank during World War II. After relocating to Grayson County, she also held positions at Grayson County State Bank, Sherman Savings and Loan, Price's Department Store and Graves Mattress Company. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, her brother Harry Lair, and a sister, Thelma Rollins. She is survived by son, James Roy Graves, III and wife, Dorian of Grand Junction, CO; brothers, Kenneth Lair of Covington, TX, and David Lair of Celina, TX; sister, Lena Marie Tucker and husband Raymond, of Whitesboro, TX; three Grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

    mrs. graves was a very nice woman. i knew her from her many years coming to the sherman public library.i even took her home one time when i t was freezing cold outside. she lived a long and wonderful life. i know she will be missed ~ tanja rhodes, richmond, Virginia
