Obituary For Laura Cogswell
On the morning of January 1, 2015, Laura Lee Lenoir Cogswell (Lollie), left this world to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 4th, at Dannel Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 5th, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church/Sherman. Dr. Mike Lawson will officiate. Interment will follow immediately afterward in West Hill Cemetery. Lollie was born on May 22, 1936, to Fanny Laura and Robert Lee Lenoir in Bowie County, Texas. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood rich in the experiences of growing up on a working farm and always had a great story to relate about riding horses, shooting guns, or swimming in the Red River. She graduated from DeKalb High School in 1954. Upon graduation from Baylor University in 1958 with a BA in English, Lollie taught high school in Pyote, Texas and was later an executive secretary in Dallas. She married Max Emerson Cogswell in Augusta, Georgia on July 9, 1965. They lived in Augusta for 12 years prior to relocating to Sherman. They have one son, Max Emerson Cogswell, Jr. During her time in Sherman, Lollie was a founding member of the Sherman Preservation League, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was active in the Dallas Eagle Forum and the Grayson County Republican Party. The most important thing in Lollie's life, however, was her Christian faith and her love for Jesus. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Sherman for 34 years, serving in the AWANA program, singing in the choir, and participating in many outreach programs and ministries. She made a point to tell everyone she encountered about Jesus and was a mighty prayer warrior as well. In addition, she served on the Board of Trustees of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary for 12 years. Lollie was known for her great compassion for the underdog and was never afraid to stand alone for the truth. She had a sweet and joyful disposition along with a bright and cheerful countenance. All who knew her would agree that she was truly one of a kind and possessed a unique personality; an extraordinary woman full of grace and elegance. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. Her memory will be cherished and she will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and little sister Jenny Lynn Lenoir Muil. Survivors include her son, Max and his wife Sheryl of Sherman; her grandchildren Max Emerson Cogswell, III (Trey), Robert Scott Cogswell, and Jennifer Leigh Cogswell, all of Sherman; sister, Louise Terrell Lenoir Brooks of Sherman; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a host of dear friends. Serving as pallbearers will be: Trey Cogswell, Robert Cogswell, Brooks Hanson, Walker Hanson, Josh Spiegel and Gray Brooks. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be greatly appreciated to the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2001 W. Seminary Dr. in Fort Worth, TX (76115), or to First Baptist Church of Sherman, 400 S. Travis St. in Sherman, TX (75090).
Condolences
