Obituary For Lena Witt

Lena Witt passed away at her home on Saturday evening, June 28, from complications due to congestive heart failure. Since her beloved husband Jim’s death, in 2011, she had a strong faith that she would be reunited with him in Heaven, along with her parents and other family members and many friends who preceded her in death. Lena was raised during the Depression on the West Texas plains in Sweetwater, TX. She attended Texas Tech University and Texas Women’s University. While working in Dallas during WWII, she met Jim Witt, who was attending Baylor dental school. They were married in Modesto, CA, in 1945, and spent a year in Bayrueth, Germany, before settling in Sherman in 1948. Lena was involved in many community clubs and local activities throughout the years, and she was very active in the First Baptist Church. Lena and Jim cherished most their time with family creating many wonderful memories. They also enjoyed traveling and spending time with the many friends they met and valued over a lifetime that was filled with grace, humor and much love. She will be remembered for her kind nature, gentleness of spirit and deep Christian faith. She sought the best in others, always favored the underdog and had a kind word for those less fortunate. She was a friend to all four-legged creatures, in particular her cat, Felix, and dog, Jenny who were with her when she passed away. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Witt Shelton, son, Dan Noah Witt, grandchildren Sara Shelton, Cody Witt, Dash Kirby, son-in-law Mike Shelton and nephew, Jim Stewart. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Tyson Witt Shelton, her parents, Sallie Day Noah and Wiley Edward Noah, sister Billie Noah Stewart, brothers Preston Noah and another brother, Fred Noah, who died prior to her birth. Lena had mentioned many times how she looked forward to meeting him in heaven someday. A memorial service will be held at The First Baptist Church in Sherman at 2 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a gift be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County, 505 W. Center St., Sherman, TX (75090), or online at www.homehospice.org; ARFHouse (Animal Refuge Foundation) at 3377 Spalding Rd., Sherman, TX (75090), or online at www.arfhouse.com; or any charity of your choice.
