Obituary For Lily Culwell Harlan
Graveside services for Lily Fay Culwell Harlan will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday June 4 2011 at Friendship Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Chaplin Sheryl Myers under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman Texas. Mrs. Harlan 96 passed away Thursday June 2 2011 at Texoma Healthcare Center. She was born June 20 1914 in Avoca (Jones County) Texas to Hugh Ed and Ermine Amanda (Beatty) Culwell. She graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport Louisiana in 1932. On October 28 1936 in the home of her parents in Avoca Texas she married E. V. Harlan Jr. The Harlans moved to Sherman in November 1947 with their three sons. Mrs. Harlan began her career in retail sales at Coleman Shoes where she was employed for fourteen years. From there she went on to work at Bratton""¢s Store for Men for four years. The last ten years of her career she spent working at the Vogue. As a young girl she joined the Methodist church and after moving to Sherman became a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. Survivors are sons Vernon Harlan and wife Peggy Jerry Harlan and wife Debbie and Melvin Harlan and friend Kaye Black. Grandchildren include Mary Martha Russell and husband Paul Don Harlan and wife Lee E.V. Harlan III and wife Kerry Matt Harlan and wife Darlyne and Scott Harlan 10 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband parents brothers Ira Culwell and George Culwell sisters Mary Ruth Worsham Lois Winberry Naomi Campbell and Maureta Tupper grandson Mike Harlan and special niece Wanda Fay Doerfer.
