Obituary For Lois Smith

Services for Lois “Granny” Jean Smith, 91 of Denison, who passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Texoma Healthcare in Sherman, will be held on Wednesday, August 30, at 2pm at Friendship Cemetery in Sherman. Rev. Chris Moses of Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman will officiate. Granny was born on January 18, 1926 in Southmayd, TX to T.B. and O.D. Elmore. She was raised in Southmayd and was the Salutatorian of her class in 1944. She married Leroy Smith in 1945 and spent the next four years working on her father’s farm plowing fields and everything else that needed to be done. Her daddy always trusted her with the plowing because of her innate ability to keep the rows straight. She and Leroy had three children, Jeanne Sisemore, Judy Shelton, and Ronnie Smith. Granny went to work at Pool Manufacturing until 1963 and then went to work for Johnson and Johnson for the next 28 years until her retirement in 1991. She enjoyed life after her retirement and went to all of her grandchildrens sporting events, band concerts, graduations and other events. She loved to travel and went everywhere in North America except Florida. She traveled to parts of Europe and loved meeting new people. Everyone who knew her called her Granny. She had an infectious enthusiasm for people and for life which is why she lived so long, she was afraid she would miss something. She was faithful to her church until she was unable to attend because of her health. She was a lifelong member of Southmayd Baptist Church even though she would attend church in the town where she lived. She will be greatly missed. Granny is survived by her daughter Jeanne Sisemore of Sherman, son Ronnie Smith and wife Shelia of Denison, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Shelton and 2 son in laws, Len Sisemore and Larry Shelton, 3 sisters and a brother. You may sign the online guestbook at www.Dannelfuneralhome.com.

To: The Lois Smith Family, Mrs. Smith was one of the highlights of my day---every day. Every time I saw her in the hallways or dining room she would always smile and wave, and I would wave to her. She always looked just beautiful---hair was beautifully combed and her clothes were gorgeous (a very loving family made sure of that). I am really going to miss Mrs. Smith and her sweet hand waving to me. Sue Allen Information Management Coordinator, Texoma Medical Center
