Obituary For Louisa Coffman

Graveside services for Louisa "Peggy" Bird Coffman will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, August 11, 2017 at Akers Cemetery. Louisa passed away on Wednesday August 9, 2017 at the age of 91 at her home. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Louisa was born July 5, 1926 in Mundhan, England to the late Herbert and Louisa (Warman) Bird. During WWII, she met and married the late Andrew Benton Coffman at Seething Church in Seething, England on May 21, 1945. Before coming to America, she gave birth to her first child Judith Coffman Norrell on April 13, 1946. During a continued 9 month stay in England, after the birth of her daughter, she continued her career as a telephone operator with the Royal Telephone Company of England. In January, 1947 she and her daughter left England on the USS Washington for her new life in America. After docking and processing in New York, she began the final trip to Grand Prairie, Texas by train and her final reunion with her husband and her new family. After receiving her American Citizenship in 1952, her GED in 1962, in 1963 she began her career as a telephone operator with GTE/Verizon where she worked for 25 years, retiring in 1987. While working at GTE she made many life long friends Louisa is survived by her daughter Judy Coffman Norrell, Son David Andrew Coffman, both of Sherman, Texas.
