Lt. Col./Ret. John Wayne Caple Sr., 96, of Sherman, TX, passed away on June 30, 2021 in Denison, TX.

Visitation will be 1pm-2pm Saturday July 10, 2021 at Dannel Funeral Home, Sherman, TX

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday July 10, 2021 at Dannel Funeral Home, Sherman, TX with Senior Pastor John Matey of Joshua Crossing, officiating. A funeral service will also be held at Davis Mortuary in Pueblo, CO on Saturday July 17 at 10 am with burial to follow at Beulah Cemetery, Beulah, CO. Arrangements are by Dannel Funeral Home Sherman, TX and Davis Mortuary Pueblo, CO.

John Wayne Caple Sr. was born in Guymon, OK to John Jacob Caple and Dora Viola Hankla Caple on February 22, 1925. He went to school at Pueblo Central High School, Pueblo, CO. He married S. Ruth Dwight Caple on December 15, 1945 in Beulah, CO. He graduated from the University of Denver and George Washington University. After retirement, he attended Grayson College and received certifications and Associate degrees. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific in WWII and was a fighter pilot in the Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Lt. Col./Ret. John Wayne Caple Sr. is preceded in death by his wife S. Ruth Dwight Caple; daughters Katherine Gunn (Robert) and Connie WallowingBull; 2 brothers, 1 sister and his parents.

He is survived by his son, John Wayne Caple Jr. (Susan) of Arvada, CO, Grandchildren: Michelle Armstrong (Chris) of Sherman, TX; Tamara Newcombe of Sherman, TX; Marjorie Jordan (James) of Howe, TX; Daniel WallowingBull (Madonna) of Pueblo, CO; Andrew Crosby of Waco, TX; Matthew Caple of North Las Vegas, NV; Christina Hammit (CJ) of Denison, TX; Jesse Caple of North Las Vegas, NV; Great-Grandchildren: Shellby and Catelyn Armstrong; Mercedes and James Ray (Monnica) Jordan; Analicia, Aliyah, Nevaeh and Amira WallowingBull and Alazae Mendoza; Alexis Sloan and Evan, Tessa, and Conner Hammit; Great-Great-Grandchildren: Tobias and Marleigh Wright; along with several nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials may be given to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2772 Sherman, TX.
