Obituary For Lucy Ann Sanderson

Lucy Ann Sanderson, 64, of Denison, passed away on October 31, 2021, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021, at West Hill Cemetery in the mausoleum with the Rev. Denise Peckham of First United Methodist Church, Sherman will be officiating. Arrangements are by Dannel Funeral Home.

Ann was born on June 3, 1957 in Dallas, Texas. Ann was raised in Sherman, Texas and graduated from Sherman High School in 1975 and continued her education at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. Ann moved to Wyoming to work for Fluor Daniel. Upon returning to Texas, she completed her RN degree from Grayson County College. She loved nursing in the ER at McKinney Hospital and Wilson N. Jones Hospital being able to give comfort to others at their worst times.

Ann enjoyed nothing more than her horses. She bred Tennessee Walkers and quarter horses. Ann was an accomplished rider, competing from the time she was a young girl. In her younger years play day shows was her love. She loved speeding through arenas rounding barrels at breakneck speed! Later Ann loved the high stepping Walkers, showing all over Texas and Tennessee. She also loved to trail ride and spent many days with her mom and friends wherever the trails would take them. More recently her love of the horse world continued as a spectator and assistant at the Celebration Horse Show in Tennessee, where she had many close friends.

But her love of animals did not stop at horses. If there was a dog or kitten who needed a loving home, Ann was there with a smile, food, beds, and belly rubs for them all.

Above all of her four-legged friends, was her great love of her family and friends. She was always the first to step up and offer to help, donating her time and energy to help all who knew her, and many who didn’t. She took great joy volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels and working with The Sherman Museum, of which she was a member of the board of directors. She also volunteered her time and energy to Grand Central Station. She was always the first to offer to help in any way possible.

Ann is preceded in death by her father Paul Sanderson, Sr. and her brothers Paul Sanderson, Jr., and Stephen Kidd Sanderson.

Ann is survived by her mother Cecile Sanderson, brother Webb Sanderson (Marty), sister-in-law Betty Sanderson, niece Patty Williams (Jason), niece Patty Williams (Jason), nephews Jeff Sanderson and Stephen Sanderson, and great-niece Paige Williams and great-nephew Jacob Williams.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Ann’s name be made to The Sherman Museum, Grand Central Station or your favorite charity.

The family invites you to the farm following the service. You may sign the online guestbook at www.dannelfuneralhome.com.

Ann was a very kind lady. I used to always get a chuckle at her humor. She will be missed greatly.

One of my most treasured memories of Ann is her (and her Mother) gifting a silver baby spoon and fork to me at my baby shower for my daughter Kensi. I am blessed to have known Ann and will miss her dearly. -Melissa McLemore

Dear Cecile and Webb, I am sad to hear that Ann passed. I've been away from Sherman 22 years now but I always hold the Sanderson's in my heart. Charlotte never had a dearer kinder friend than you Cecil. Webb ironic that we had a serendipitous visit walking in the park several weeks ago. Lots of memories. Horses, Christmas parties, plays, dances, Easter egg hunts at the Daniels....the social life of Sherman friends. Sending Light, levity and love to you this time of loss. Betsy Spears
