Obituary For Ludie Marie Wright

Ludie Dixon Wright, 97, went to her Heavenly home on November 10, 2023, in Denison, Texas, following a brief illness.

Ludie was the first of twin daughters born to Hermon and Nora Vaughan Dixon in Wellington, Texas, on November 23, 1925. Her family moved to Sherman, Texas, when she was a baby. She was educated in Sherman schools and graduated from Sherman High School in 1943. After graduation, she held several secretarial jobs, including working at a brokerage firm; Roberts, Sanford & Taylor; M & P National Bank; and finally, as the secretary to the plant manager at Texas Instruments from the time the plant opened in Sherman until her retirement. She successfully passed the comprehensive test to attain the title of Certified Professional Secretary, which was quite an accomplishment.

Ludie married Ossie Wright, Jr., “Sugar,” in 1945. They were married for 60 years until Ossie’s death in 2005. Ossie and Ludie owned numerous rent houses in Sherman, as well as a mobile home park. After retirement, Ludie kept the books for all of their property and made sure that every last detail was executed perfectly.

Ludie and Ossie were active members of the Sherman Church of the Nazarene. Ludie and her twin, Ludean, formed a singing trio with a good friend, Imogene Siebert. They sang in their church for over twenty-five years. Ludie had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in the church choir. In their younger years, she and Ossie were the youth sponsors. Ludie had a great love for the Lord and was a dedicated prayer warrior, praying daily for her family and any prayer requests that were brought to her attention. She was extremely talented: as an adult, she took painting and piano lessons, just because she wanted to learn; completed many semesters of Spanish and Bible classes through adult continuing education at Grayson County College; and was an accomplished seamstress, sewing most of her own clothing.

Ludie is survived by her niece, Jeanie Greenlee Hancock and husband, Artie Hancock, of Denison; two grandnieces: Jennifer Garland (Vance) Bowen of Sherman and Jordan Hancock (Brooks) Burris of Richardson; also, two great-grand nephews: Adler and Hayes Bowen and two great-grand nieces: Blakely Bowen and Francie Burris. Ludie was preceded in death by her husband; twin sister, Ludean; father and mother; brothers Lois Dixon and Floyd Dixon; and sisters, Thelma Guinn Stroud and Goldie Alonzo.

Ludie was laid to rest in a private burial at Cedarlawn Memorial Park on November 14, 2023, under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman, with the Rev. Mack Rogers officiating. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends alike.

Ludie and I worked side by side for over ten years at Sherman Texas Instruments. Three stories to share: 1) When she interviewed at TI Sherman it was at the start of the site. She was hired immediately and asked to get started right then. She sat down and filled out new employee paperwork. 2) As a young girl she was very hard on her shoes. Ludie could not have new shoes until Ludean's shoes wore out. Ludie would sneak Ludean's shoes out and scuff them to get new shoes for herself. Such a minx even as an adult! 3) TI Sherman had wonderful employee holiday and birthday food spreads. Ludie would bring awesome cheesecake. When complimented, she refused to share the secret recipe. She shared with me at her retirement her secret recipe was to buy cheesecake at the bakery! We shared much laughter, knowledge, and many tears during our time together. I know she, Sugar and Ludean are happy together again. I will miss her.
