Lynn Lenoir Muil, 68, of Sherman, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 31, 2014. She was born on May 24, 1945, in Paris, Texas, to the late Robert Lee and Fanny Laura Lenoir (nee Duncan). She graduated from DeKalb High School in 1963 and earned a BA in English from Baylor University in 1967. Lynn had been active in several civic organizations in Sherman. She was a past member of the Sherman Preservation League, during which time her home was part of the first Preservation League Home Tour. She also served several years on the Sherman Library Board and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Lynn had a great love of horses. She was very active in numerous endeavors for the Tennessee Walking Horse breed, from trail riding to local parades to participating on the rail in the show ring. She was a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association and regularly attended and sometimes competed in the Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration in Shelbyville, Tennessee, becoming a great and successful ambassador for the breed. She was also a member of the Saddlebags, a ladies’ riding club in North Texas. She passed along this love for horses to her daughter, Caroline Muil Switzer, and her granddaughter, Catherine Lenoir Switzer. In addition to Caroline and Catherine, Lynn is survived by two sisters, Louise Lenoir Brooks and Laura Lenoir Cogswell, along with several nieces and nephews and their families. It was Lynn’s desire to donate her body to science to further research for cancer. She was actively witnessing for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, until her last day and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Lynn’s life will be held in Dannel Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 4th. The family will receive friends beginning at 7:00 p.m., just prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers are: Bob Brooks, Duncan Brooks, Max Cogswell, Jr., Michael Inman, and Frank Cobb.

I did not know Lynn had passed away until today when I was using the internet to try to find her. Lynn became my friend while we were in the first grade and we remained friends for the rest of our childhood. I took her to the senior prom in 1963. When we were in the first grade in DeKalb, Lynn would take the school bus to her home not far from the Red River. But once or twice a week, her mother would come to the old DeKalb Hobby Shop and Lynn could take the 10 minute walk there as long as someone walked with her. It was my privilege to walk with her and I imagined that I was her protector. I drank my first cup of hot tea at the Hobby Shop with Lynn and her mother and then imagined myself as a young English gentleman drinking that hot tea with the little princess. Lynn was the smartest and the prettiest girl in school but she could also out wrestle most of the boys in the first and second grade. Lynn and I shared the same political views and in 1962 we took a campaign bus trip to Austin to a rally for Jack Cox. In class discussions in high school, Lynn was an articulate debater and would come to my rescue if I was outnumbered. The last time I saw her was in 1964 while I was on leave from the Army. Later I went to Vietnam and stayed there for several years, and lost touch with Lynn, but to me, she is still that elegant little blue eyed blond 7 year old girl that used to ask me in her sweet and charming little voice if I could walk her to the Hobby Shop. God bless her family. I will always remember her and treasure her friendship. She is still the special princess in my mind. ~ Monte Jones, Pearcy, Arkansas

Lolly and Lou- Lynn was my sweetheart when we were in high school, and I have never forgotten what a wonderful person she was. I learned she was ill last fall when one of her classmates attended a DeKalb HS class reunion and learned of Lynn's illness. I sent her a letter, but I don't know if she ever got it, I hope she did. My heart is heavy today, and my thoughts and prayers are with you. ~ Charlie Russell, Georgetown, Texas

Caroline, your mother holds a special place in the hearts of so many people! Women Aware at Glad Tidings was a Bible Study group of women in the late 80's and early 90's. This is where I first met Lynn. She was full of grace and loved to have us in her home to fellowship. Her faith, as was the faith of her mother before her was a testimony to many! I pray that His Spirit will give you that "Peace that surpasses all understanding" and comfort and bless you... ~ Patricia Bridges, Whitewright, Texas
