Obituary For Maj. Kay Ann Elmore

Kay Ann Elmore, (69), of Denison, Texas, passed away on 1 December, 2021 at the Veteran’s Administration Hospice in Bonham, Texas. No local memorial service will be conducted locally.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:15 PM, 20 December 2021, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery located in Dallas. Kay was born in Big Spring, Texas to William and Betty Meek, 30 November 1952. She attended school there graduating from Big Spring High School. Further Education included a BA degree in Journalism from Angelo State University and a MA in counseling from Boston University. She was a veteran serving initially in the US Navy as an enlisted WAVE in the 1970s, with further service as an officer in the USAF, retiring with the rank of Major in 1997. She served in a number of overseas assignments in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East and participated in Desert Shield/Desert Storm and in the incursion into Haiti. She received many awards for her service including the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 OLC, the Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 OLC, the Joint Services Achievement Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal. Kay was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Angelo State Alumni Association. She was active in volunteer work, locally active driving for Meals on Wheels in Denison.

Kay was respected; admired and loved by all who knew her. She was respected for her wonderful character and honesty: admired for her keen intelligence, happy nature, common sense and adventurous nature. People loved her for her kindness and big Texas heart and envied her joyous spirit. Her friends will remember well her wonderful Christmas parties attended by a widely diverse group of friends and family. She enjoyed sports and the outdoors, fishing, hunting and other activities. She had a passion for photography with professional skills in the art. While physically able she was an avid golfer and competitive softball player. Kay loved baseball, studied the game and was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan.

Kay was preceded in death by her father William Meek and mother, Betty Meek.

She is survived by her husband, Darrell Elmore of Denison, her Brother Maurice Meek of Midland, Texas, Step son Cody Elmore of San Marcos, Texas, her nephew Colonel Steven Meek of Fort Hood, Texas, and step grandchildren Alexander Elmore of Kyle, Texas, Isabella Elmore in Washington DC, Jackson Valentine of Red Rock, Texas, and Arianna Dyer of Pomfret Center, CT.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of the Texoma ICU South for their professional care and compassion during her last days.

Kay will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends she has around the world.
