Obituary For Marcus Snidow

Marcus Reeder (Mark) Snidow residing at The Renaissance of Sherman passed away on June 11 2012 at the age of 88. Mark was born to Lloyd Reeder Snidow and Mattie Givens Snidow in Roanoke Virginia on September 26 1923. He graduated High School in Roanoke and attended Virginia Tech where he earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. Mark married the love of his life Joan Graham in Dublin VA on June 2 1951. In their later years together they enjoyed traveling to Europe and taking trips to historical sites with their grandchildren. He faithfully nursed her through Alzheimer"s Disease until her passing in 2004. They had three children. Mark was an Industrial Engineer with Burlington Industries for 38 years before retirement. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Sherman. Mark was a true, old-school gentleman whose kindness decency and gentle sense of humor will be sorely missed. Mark was predeceased by his wife Joan Graham Snidow by his parents and by his brother Carroll Givens Snidow. Surviving family members are: daughter Toni Lynn Snidow, son Barry Graham Snidow and wife Michele Mikesell, son Kenneth Scott Snidow and wife Carla Thompson, granddaughter Kristin Meurer and husband Ryan, granddaughter Shawn Snidow Averbeck and husband Josh, granddaughter Ivy Gorden granddaughter Emily Thompson Gandy and husband Lucky Gandy, grandson Clint Thompson, great-granddaughter Celeste Meurer great-granddaughter Audrey Gandy and great-grandson Landon Gandy, one sister Edith Snidow Dollins and brother-in-law Phil Dollins of Waynesboro VA sister-in-law Norma Snidow of Roanoke VA and a number of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Seasons at The Renaissance and American Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care of Mark. Those who wish to do so may make a contribution in Mark"s memory to the memorial fund of First United Methodist Church of Sherman. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church Sherman Texas on Friday June 15 2012 at 10:00 a.m with Rev. Ed Goolsby and Dr. Jim Pledger officiating. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday June 14 2012 at Dannel Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.
