Obituary For Margaret Kathleen Groves
Margaret Kathleen Groves- “Kat” to her family and friends, was born on October 26, 1929, to Trude and Ruby Carney in Collinsville, Texas. She left this earth on March 8, 2024, at the age of 94 years young.
She was one of the most devoted Christians I have ever met and truly loved her Lord and Savior. Her favorite topic was religion and how someday we would be with Jesus in Heaven. Her passion was to write not only poems, but music which she often sang at her church in Sherman. She taught herself to paint some beautiful pictures by watching an artist on TV. She was extremely OCD in everything she did. It had to be perfect. She never left the house without full make-up and dressed as if she was going to church. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
She was kind, considerate, loving and giving. She never asked for anything in return. To her great grandsons, granddaughter, and son in law she was “Granny.” To Carolyn she was “Moma. Carolyn always said that not only was her Moma the best Moma in the world, but also, she and her Moma were best friends. She was always available for me no matter what was going on, she made me her priority always!
Kathleen was one of 10 children born to Trude and Ruby Carney and she is survived by her sister Patsy and Robbie. She was blessed with one daughter, Carolyn, an amazing son in law, John Meiners, two granddaughters Kelly Holcomb and husband Ronnie, and the late Caroline Kerrane, and five great grandsons, Devin, Hunter, Austin, Trevor, and Easton.
Kathleen’s husband James Groves recently passed away on October 19, 2023. Just shy of four months apart. They were married for 53 years. I know that she, her Mom and Dad and all her brothers and sisters and James are having quiet the family reunion right now. Carolyn said at one point she smiled because as sad as she is to not have her Moma here on this earth she knows that now her Moma is safe in the arms of Jesus.
Carolyn wanted to read her Moma’s eulogy but knew she wouldn’t be able to make it past the first sentence. But she said she and her Moma never argued-never! She would call her Moma sometimes very late at night to talk about things that she needed advice that only a Moma can give.
We must pay tribute to one of the most amazing individuals who took extremely good care of Kathleen- that is Flavia. She was Moma’s caregiver, but more than that, she was her friend. She truly cared about Kathleen and moved in with her after James passed and took care of her 24/7. We will be eternally grateful to her as she was Moma’s Angel on Earth. We are convinced that God sent Flavia to my Mom. She is now a part of the family! Also, to Hospice Plus- Seanna Morris who was Moma’s nurse. She was amazing in the care she showed for my Moma and was with us when Moma passed. It takes a special person to do what she does, and she also is our Angel on Earth who guided us through the process and gave us comfort when Kathleen went to Heaven. We are so blessed to have had her take care of Moma.
Carolyn recently found a journal that her Moma had written a note to her on December 18, 2006, the day after Carolyn’s birthday- the last two lines were as follows- “However long our lives will be- our love will last thru eternity.” She is safe in the arms of Jesus and waiting for the day we will all be together again. She will be deeply missed; we are the ones who mourn her passing- but rejoice knowing where she is now! We love you Moma! You are now our Angel in Heaven!
