Obituary For Margaret Pickett
Margaret O'Neal Pickett, 95, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 10th, in Dannel Funeral Chapel, with Mary Lois O'Neal officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery immediately afterward. Margaret was born December 26, 1919, in Sherman, TX, to Albert Leonard and Luna Prator O'Neal. She graduated from Sherman High School in 1938. She received her associate's degree from Grayson College, and her bachelors and masters of education degrees from East Texas State University at Commerce. She was married to Vernon C. Pickett in 1941 in Sherman. He preceded her in death in 1990. Margaret was employed by the Sherman Independent School District for 25 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and the Grayson County Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Chi Chapter. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, and also a longtime member of Key Memorial United Methodist Church in Sherman, where she taught the Builder-Uppers Sunday School class for twenty five years. She was a member of the Quiltmakers of Sherman and had served as treasurer of the group. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 183 at Carpenter's Chapel. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sisters, she is survived by her son, Jerry Pickett, of Amarillo, TX; her half-sister, Rose O'Neal, of Sherman; one granddaughter, Amanda Pickett; nephews, Jim Key and Jason Key, of Denison, and Jeffrey Key, of McKinney; nieces, Margaret and Stacy Sellers, of Long Beach, CA; many cousins and a host of friends.
