Marie Bailey Chumbley was born in Leonard Texas on May 26 1920 a premature baby who was not expected to live. She passed away on March 3 2012 in Rockwall Texas at the age of 91 years and 9 months. Her parents were Glenn A. and Ina Wallace Bailey. Having survived smallpox as a child she went on to graduate from Leonard High School in 1937. She married Joe W. Chumbley of Sherman on September 26 1940. Throughout World War II Marie worked for Braniff Airways in Dallas Texas and then Hardwicke- Etter Co. in Sherman. During the 1950"s and 1960"s she worked for Sherman Manufacturing Company and then Hardwicke-Etter again as a receptionist and switchboard operator. She was a long- time member of First Baptist Church of Sherman. Marie is predeceased by her parents her husband of 61 years and a brother Billy Joe Bailey. She is survived by her daughter Anne Chumbley McGrew and husband Mike of Rockwall two grandchildren Erin McGrew Herndon and husband Jim of Dallas and Patrick Ryan McGrew and wife Jodi of Rockwall. She was Great-grandmommaÃ?Â쳌 Marie to Bryson Brendan and Bailey McGrew of Rockwall. Marie Chumbley was an excellent knitter and a voracious reader having read 186 books in 2011 her all time record. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Sherman or Denison Library or Riter Hulsey Library (books-on-wheels) in Terrell Texas or any public library of your choice. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 p.m. Dannel Funeral Home on Tuesday March 6th. Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday March 6 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman Texas. Rev. Jack Washington will officiate.
