Obituary For Marie Walston
Frances Marie Walston, born November 26, 1928, in Henrietta, Texas, passed away peacefully at the age of 97. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend. Her life was marked by her love for her family, her faith, her creativity, and her desire to serve and care for others.
Marie grew up on a farm in Henrietta, TX with two older brothers and one younger brother. From there, Marie graduated from nursing school at Saint Paul’s Hospital in Dallas, where she earned her RN license. After graduation, she returned to Henrietta, Texas, where she worked on the surgical ward. While in Henrietta, she met Vernon Walston, who would become the love of her life.
Throughout her nursing career, Marie touched countless lives through her compassion and dedication to caring for others. She worked as a school nurse in both New Mexico and Texas and traveled to different school districts throughout Denton and Grayson Counties. Later, she worked at West Gate Hospital in Denton, Texas. After many years as an RN, Marie continued her career at Texas Woman’s University, where she served as the campus nurse. It was there, after devoting so many years of her life to caring for others, that Marie finally retired.
Marie was also a 20-year breast cancer survivor, a testament to her strength, courage, and determination throughout her life.
Even after retiring from nursing, Marie never stopped learning or caring for others. She attended school to become a massage therapist alongside her mother, continuing her lifelong passion for helping people. Her legacy for caring for others continued through one of her daughters and grandchildren. Her oldest daughter and one of her granddaughters followed in her footsteps and became a massage therapist, while two other granddaughters followed her path into nursing.
Marie was a woman of strong faith and a giving heart. She volunteered her time through her church, helping prepare meals for families in need and making rosaries for missionaries. She was always looking for ways to make a difference and quietly bless those around her.
She was also incredibly talented and creative. Marie loved to crochet and quilt, and her work reflected the time, patience, and love she put into everything she created. Her talents even earned her a second-place ribbon at the Grayson County Fair for one of her quilts. She also crocheted baby booties and hats for newborns, creating special handmade treasures that were given with love.
Marie was the loving wife of Vernon Walston and a devoted mother to her four children: Latain Tischler and husband Roy of Whitesboro, TX, Sunny Martin and husband Herman of Aubrey, TX, Larry Walston and wife Brenda of Sherman, TX, and David Walston and wife Viv of Monticello, MN. Her family continued to grow to include 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 10 great greatgrandchildren, all of whom brought her tremendous joy and pride.
Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon, her parents; Rudolph and Elenora Haberman, and her three brothers, Father Lawrence Haberman, Clarence Haberman, and Randolph Haberman who undoubtedly welcomed her home with open arms.
Above all, Marie cherished her family. She created a legacy not only through the generations she leaves behind, but through the love, faith, kindness, compassion, and creativity she passed down to them.
Marie will be deeply missed by her family and all who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will live on through the many lives she touched and through the generations of family who carry her love and legacy forward.
