Obituaries

Graveside services for Martha Ann Baze, age 88, will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 9:30a.m. at West Hill Cemetery with burial to follow. Craig Nedrow, Pat Kaczor, Mark Welch, Clint Shaffer, Matthew Welch, and Carter Shaffer will serve as pallbearers. Tom Byler and Jerry Brookmole will be honorary pallbearers. Martha passed away peacefully on the morning of July 26, 2025.

Martha Ann Baze was born June 12, 1937 in Bells, TX to John P. Baze and Nannie (Carter) Baze and attended Southmayd Schools. Ms. Baze was a longtime employee at Burlington Industries in Sherman, TX, later retiring from Grayson County College.

Martha was a devout Christian and a longtime member of Southmayd Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for many years. Martha remained a servant to the Lord and continued to witness to friends and family even in her final days. This was a true testament of her faith. As part of her faith Martha felt called to serve. This included not only her church but also Faith in Action in Sherman, as well as her local government where she served on the Southmayd City Council numerous years and at times serving as mayor pro term.

Martha’s hobbies included volunteer work and golfing with her friends. In 2007 at the age of 70, Martha was thrilled to make a hole in one on the 8 th hole at Grayson Golf Course.

Ms. Baze is survived by her sister Margaret Welch of Southmayd, Sister-in-law Letha Baze of Whitewright, numerous nieces and nephews that have fond memories spending the night on a pallet on her floor, swinging on her porch swing, snapping green beans, and driving her riding lawn-mower, and many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews whom she adored. Martha is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Bill Baze, Jerry Baze, Johnny Paul Baze, Ronald Baze, and sister Margie Walker.
