Obituary For Martha Wilks
Martha Wilks, 88, of Pilot Point and formerly of Sherman, passed away Saturday, March 22nd at Countryside Nursing and Rehab Center in Pilot Point. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, March 27th, from 7:00-8:00 at Dannel Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 28th at Dannel Funeral Chapel, with Rusty Sherry and Frank Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Lamasco Cemetery, north of Bonham, Texas. Martha was born February 4, 1926 in Georgia, to Virgil Cloniger and Myrtie Rose Cloniger. She worked alongside her mother in the home, and at the age of nine began regular employment in homes with new babies. By the time she was 17, Martha was working in the cotton mill and was the primary support for her mother and three siblings. She moved to Texas in 1946, where she met and married M.S. Wilks. A resident of Sherman for many years, Martha retired from Johnson & Johnson Manufacturing Plant with over 17 years of dedicated service. Always a believer in God, she remained faithful to the church of Christ – attending Westwood, Grand Avenue, Parkview and Woods St. congregations before moving to The Colony. When she returned to Sherman, she began attending Western Heights. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband M.S. Wilks, one sister Dixie Scott and great-grandchildren Montana and Maverick Lance. She is survived by her son Marty Wilks of Sherman; her daughter Judy Lance of The Colony; brother Daniel Cloniger; grandchildren: Jason, Troy, Jared, Todd, Jesse and Tori; great-grandchildren: Seth, Layden, Dooley, Hayley, Lexie and Sky.
