Obituary For Mary Blakeley

Mary V. Blakeley, 87, of Sherman, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Texas Health Presbyterian/ WNJ. Mary had chosen cremation for final disposition. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Online condolences may be registered at www.dannelfuneralhome.com Mary was born July 28, 1926, in Houston, TX, to Carey, Sr. and Catherine Ruth Naugle. She was educated in the Pasadena schools, just southeast of Houston. After graduation from high school, Mary went away to Tyler, TX and enrolled in college. There she met the love of her life! The college endeavor lasted only one year; the resulting romance and eventual marriage to James Blakeley, much longer. Married on Christmas Eve, 1946, Mary and James would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary later this year. Not given to much idle time, Mary was very involved in her community. She served as ‘den mother’ for various Cub Scout and Girl Scout troops and was a member of the Amvets Auxiliary. In addition to over twenty-five years of dedicated volunteer work at the VA Medical Center in Bonham, TX, she was also a member of the State Foundation, and had served as President of local and state-wide chapters. When she did take time for herself, she was most comfortable in the kitchen, cooking and baking. Mary is predeceased by her parents and one brother. Left to celebrate her memory are her husband James, son William Blakeley, daughter Vandalyn McNulty, and 5 grandchildren.
