Mary Jane Prince Mattingly, 95, of Sherman, passed away on September, 18, 2026 in Sherman.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11am, October 2, 2026 at Dannel Funeral Home with Ken Shainker officiating. A repass will be held at Jane’s home directly after the service.

Jane was born in Bells, Texas to Melvin Prince and Maggie Parton Prince on August 4, 1931. She was a twin, and Jane told us the story of her daddy calling her and June, bawl and squall. She graduated from Bells High School in 1949. She also attended Denison Business College. She married her most recent husband Ralph Mattingly in 2009, who nicknamed her Sunshine. This stuck for the rest of her beautiful life. They went on many cruises and road trips together, enjoying the many sites, singing karaoke and gambling.

She retired from the Internal Revenue Service in June of 2000 with 20 years of service. Her last job there was in Procurement as a Purchasing Agent/Contract Specialist. She was very involved in the ladies Auxiliary at the VFW, the Bonham VA Hospital, Key Memorial’s clothing and food assistance programs, and NARFE. Before her health declined she physically attended Western Heights Church of Christ, she never stopped worshiping via YouTube or partaking of communion, to which lovely members of the church community brought to her.

Jane is preceded in death by her son Bobby Reynolds, her spouse Ralph Mattingly, her twin sister June Lucas, her older sister Melba Kratch, and her older brother Gene Prince.

Jane is survived by her grandsons Clifton Reynolds and Brent Mayhan, daughter in law, Laura Shainker, her husband Ken Shainker, sister in law Donna Kay Bowen and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice of the many charitable organizations in the community, or the VFW Post 2772 where Jane volunteered.

The family of Jane wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Matt Turner who cared for her in her home for the past year, Birdie Hospice, Morgan, Emily, Allison, Michelle, and Shauna, as well as the many friends and relatives who visited, sent cards and loved Jane so deeply.
