Obituary For Matthew George Sims

Our beloved Matthew George Sims, 48, passed away on March 29, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, and is with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He is living his peaceful eternal life in Heaven with God.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Dannel Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas. Interment will occur at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery for veterans on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are by Charles Dannel, III of Dannel Funeral Home, a Texas Historic Landmark. Honorary Pallbearers will be; Jackson Sims, Silas Sims, Nathan Sims, Josh Reynolds, Scott Bateman, and Rodney George.

Matthew was born in Dallas, Texas on March 10, 1977. As a “Missionary Kid” and “Pastor’s Kid” Matthew had a wonderful upbringing and spent his private school years abroad in Costa Rica, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey, and his hometown of Oklahoma City. He met his wife Holly McAllister in 1997 while stationed in Kodiak, Alaska where he sailed the Bering Sea on the U.S.C.G.C. Storis. He was honorably discharged and retired from the military as an Electrician's Mate 3rd class in 2006. Later, he had a 15-year career as a project manager. His greatest joy came from raising his two sons, who he was so proud of, cherishing and teaching them to live life according to God’s Word. He enjoyed outdoor activities, sports, natural living, strategic gaming, and he was a lifelong learner. Above all Matthew was private and humble. His choices always reflected his desire to be a good example for his two sons and others - a trait he learned from his upbringing in the ministry.

Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents Wendell and Rene Sims, grandparents Reverend Roy and Jimalee George, (uncle) Pastor Kenneth George, (uncle) Pastor J. Don George, and three cousins.

Matthew is survived by his devoted wife Holly, and their sons Jackson and Silas, parents Randy and Peg Sims, sister Whitney Reynolds (Josh), brother Nathan Sims (Makenzie), Asher, Jade, and many more nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his closest friends Scott and Michelle Bateman, many family members and friends.

Matthew’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to UT Southwestern Medical Center staff and TMC Rebas staff for their generous support, Bells Family Drug and Bells Elementary School, to Wade and Maureen Shumway for over 15 years of friendship, and to all the family and friends who prayed for Matthew.

Matt was one of my best friends during my time aboard USCGC STORIS.. we shared thousands of laughs and countless good times. I remember when he met Holly, and it really was a great time in my life to have shared with both of them. My prayers go out to Holly and the rest of the family.

My heart breaks for you and your son's. Mathew was such a kind person and was Silas's biggest fan at ballgames. Silas played sports with my grandson Steele for a couple of years. I will be praying for your family and friends during this difficult time. God Bless You 🙏 Candy Nelson

Holly, I am still praying for you and your family. I will be unable to attend the service because I am having a little surgery Monday. Please, please give Silas a hug for me and that I love him. I wish that I could be there. We will take good care of him when he comes back to school. Mrs. Bennie
