Obituary For Melvin Fields

Melvin Earl Fields, 75, of Sherman, passed from this life Tuesday evening, January 12, 2016, at his home in Sherman surrounded by his loving family. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 19th, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with Fr. Wesley Evans officiating. Melvin was born October 20, 1940, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Roy and Izota Fields. As a young man, he served in the United States Army. He married Penelope Tipling, in Sherman in 1991. He worked for Wal-Mart for 16 years as a truck driver. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Sherman. In his leisure, Melvin preferred the outdoors, especially if he could have a fishing pole in his hands. Melvin was preceded in death by both parents, his brother Marvin Fields, and two sisters, Gretchen Fields and Betty Bates. Survivors include his loving wife Penelope, of Sherman; sons: Nathan Crawford, Kenneth Crawford and wife Erin, and Robert Watson and wife Julie, all of Sherman; James Crawford and wife Genna, of Jacksonville, FL; daughters: Nicole McQuarry and husband Jack, of Celina, and Hilary Thomas and husband Stephen, of Sherman; sister Debbie Koester and husband Don, of Ft. Wayne, IN; nine grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.

    There are no words that can truly describe the deep loss that we have all encountered with Mel's passing. Anyone that knew Mel was blessed to have him as part of their life. He set the bar high in standards for being a caring and loving husband/father/grandfather. Mel loved his family and led this passion with old school values that we all embrased. There has not been a day that has gone by since I met Mel where he wasn't in my thoughts. Working every week toward Friday just so Milissa and I could get to the lake for a weekend of paradise with he and Penelope on the docks. Crappie Fishing, Cooking out, trying to find ways to catch more fish, hauling him back to his slip in a wheel barrel when he drank too much one time, and taking in the NASCAR Races in Ft. Worth once a year. We had lot's of fun and laughs! Yep.. didn't take long to fall in love with Mel. He loved me, Milissa and Ciara and we will take that love to our graves. The worst part for everyone was having to stand by thru his suffering toward the end. He fought a hard battle and never let on to ever giving up! I will surely miss being able to talk with him and will always cherish the memories and his love. I know that we all find comfort in knowing he is in a better place and he is not suffering pain.
