Obituary For Melvin Plumlee

Melvin Vondell Plumlee age 71 passed away peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2018 at his home in Sherman. Cancer won the battle that Melvin fought very courageously for over 2 years. A farewell gathering will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 8 at WNJ Chapel with Chaplain George Wade. Dannel Funeral Home is in charge of Melvin’s cremation arrangements. Melvin was born July 2, 1946 at WNJ Hospital. He was the only child of William Clifton Plumlee and Doris Ann Covey Plumlee who both predeceased him. Melvin graduated from Howe High School in 1965 where he was a star football player. Upon graduation Melvin was employed at Anderson Clayton a local manufacturer. May 1965 Melvin met his future wife Patricia Jean Drain. They were married on August 28, 1965 at Central Baptist Church and began their life together in Sherman. Their only child William Vondell Plumlee was born May 10, 1966 at WNJ Hospital. In 1969 Melvin took up the trade of his father as a plumber in new construction relocating to Dallas to provide a better life for his family. While in Dallas Melvin began employment with Tempo Mechanical as a journeyman plumber. Through his deligient work efforts and receiving his Master Plumbing License he rose through the ranks to eventually become Vice President of Production which he held through 1989. There after Melvin started his own business until 2007 at which time he became employed for Ruiz Foods in Denison until his death. The family wants to thank the ones who assisted him during his two year fight with cancer: Denise McKinney and the wonderful support of Ruiz Foods, Dr. Amir Faridi, Dr. Anand T. Shivnani, Eric Clarke R.Ph, and the entire Texas Oncology Sherman group, Dr. M. AsadKarim, Dr Dale Davies, Dr. Aditi Swami, Dr,. Kenton P. Schrank, Dr. Cody Starnes, Dr. Nathan Watson, Christina, Sam and Nancy of Heart to Heart Hospice. Also, a big thanks to Wanna Burger group for his biscuits and gravy fix. Melvin leaves behind his wife Pat, their son William and his husband Paul and all of his in-laws Mary(Granny),Brenda, Myrtle, Otis Jr., Judith that he considered his family and Silly the cat. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Society.
