Obituary For Merle Peterson

Merle Jeanne Peterson, 84, passed away on Dec 31, 2016 at her residence in Sherman, Texas. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 5 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. Pastor Tim Harkins of the Sherman Bible Church will officiate the funeral service held at Dannel Funeral Home Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at historic West Hill Cemetery. Jean was born in 1932 to parents Walter and Mina E. (Monroe) Weyers in Crab Orchard, Nebraska. She started working on the family farm, then Lincoln General Hospital as a nurse aide, the Elgin Watch Company in Lincoln, NE, Children's Palace in Florence, KY, and Elder Watch in Grayson County before taking on her final job as grandmother. Jean married Claude Richard "Dick" Peterson on May 30, 1953 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They moved to Denver, CO, in 1957, then Villa Hills, KY in 1976 and finally Sherman, TX in 1979. Jean and Dick celebrated 58 years together before his passing in 2011. Jean was a devoted mother and grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Wayne Weyers, and her husband Dick. Jean is survived by a son, Chris Roy Peterson of Arlington, TX, a daughter, Julie Ann Taylor and her husband Danny of Sherman, TX. Jean has two grandsons, Tyler Hatch of Commerce, TX and Zayden Owens of Sherman, TX, a granddaughter, Hannah Taylor of Clyde, TX, her sister Waldyne Mallon of Omaha, NE, her brother S. Doug Weyers of Denver, CO, nieces, Jackie Colton of Waverly, NE, Lori Henry of Denver, CO, Jana Clark of Lincoln, NE, nephews, Marc Stutzman of Denver, CO, Bart Mahnks of Omaha, NE, Jeff Weyers of Canton, IL and Diana Hein of Lincoln, NE; several great-nieces, great-nephews, step-nieces and step-nephews.
