Obituary For Mildred Brinkley

Mildred Brinkley of Sherman, Texas, passed away on February 26th at the age of 88 years old. She passed from complications of Alzheimer’s. Mildred was born in Altus, Oklahoma on March 26, 1929 to the parents of Mack Ray King and Vera Vivian Armstrong King. Mildred is survived by four sons, Ken Brinkley & wife Phyllis of Rockwall, Texas; James Brinkley and wife Belinda of Sherman, Texas; Rick Brinkley and wife Liane of Rockwall, Texas and Marc Brinkley and wife Janeen of Sherman. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Sandra Brinkley Rednour, John Brinkley, Andy Goin, Amber Brinkley, Josh Brinkley and Michelle Brinkley along with 9 great grandchildren. Mildred has been preceded in death by her parents, sister, Maxine Barnes, brothers Kenneth and Wayne King, nephew Donald Joe Barnes and her husband of 50 years, Kenneth Brinkley Sr. Mildred was born in the depression years and had a difficult beginning with her father having to leave the family in search of work and mother passing away when she was 11 years old. Maxine took over the mother role in raising her which formed a strong everlasting bond between them. Mildred graduated Sherman High School in 1947. She married Kenneth Brinkley in 1948 and had four sons. Mildred was a homemaker and raised her boys in a Christian home with her "Old School" values. When her last child was in middle school, she worked for a few years for Garland ISD at Bussey Middle School. Mildred was a beautiful and very caring lady who always put others before herself. At family gatherings she always ate last, making sure everyone else was happy first. The only two faults that the family found with this special woman was that she was a staunch Democrat and she was born in Oklahoma. This always caused spirited conversations with the family. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Dannel Funeral Home located at 302 S. Walnut, Sherman, Texas. Graveside service will be held 10:00 am Friday March 2nd at Hall Cemetery in Howe, Texas. Pastor Leland Samuelson will be officiating. The family would like to express our appreciation to the staff of Gainesville Nursing and Rehabilitation for the care of our family member. You may sign the online guestbook at www.Dannelfuneralhome.com.
