Obituary For Nancy Johnston

Nancy Jane Johnston, 90, of Sherman passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veteran Home in Bonham. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. Reverend Denise Odom of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman will officiate. The family will receive friends at Dannel Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2015. Nancy was born on February 17, 1925 in Whitewright, the daughter of Walter and Irene Myrick. She was the youngest of ten siblings. At a young age, she moved to Sherman and graduated from Sherman High School. She married George (Hap) Johnston on September 4, 1945 in Rockwall. Nancy was a homemaker and enjoyed decorating her home, growing flowers, and keeping her yard looking nice. She was once awarded for the best Christmas light display in Sherman. As an avid sports fan, she never missed a Cowboys or Rangers game on TV. She also liked to entertain family and friends, and always looked forward to her Thursday bridge club. While raising two sons, she was very involved with their school activities and she worked as a substitute teacher. Later in life, Nancy enjoyed spending time with her two granddaughters, Nicole and Tara, who called her Mimi. They went on many shopping trips together. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband George (Hap) Johnston, father Walter Myrick, mother Irene Myrick, five sisters Loucylle, Ruth, Mae, Frances, Lola, and four brothers Lonnie, Raymond, Hub, and Wellen. She is survived by her two sons Terry and Tim Johnston of Sherman, TX; granddaughter Nicole Barnes and husband Steven of Pasadena, TX, granddaughter Tara Johnston of Austin, TX; and a great granddaughter Deven Barnes of Pasadena, TX.
