Obituary For Nelda Faye Lair Clay

Nelda Faye Lair Clay, 90, of Sherman, Texas, passed away on September 28, 2025.

Her visitation will be 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Dannel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Dannel Funeral Home, with Alan Monk, of Center Street Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman, Texas. Arrangements are by Dannel Funeral Home.

Nelda was born in Dorchester, Texas on June 9, 1935 to Royal Arch Hanning and Zilla Angie Lowe. She graduated from Gunter High School. Nelda married Theodore Mark Lair on September 16, 1955 until March 14, 1991. She then married her husband Charles Clay on July 12, 1997 until his passing.

Nelda worked in flour milling Sherman Oil Mill from 1960 to 1965, and then worked for Double-B Saddle Co. in 1965 to 1977. Nelda also worked at the Texoma Driving School. She had a great passion for her church and her family.

She is survived by her son, Nelson Hanning Lair, grandchildren; Shane Holloway, Nicole Baker, Trey Baker, Jailyn Baker, Khloe Baker, Katherine and Ethan Locke, sister in law; Sue Hanning, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husbands; Ted Lair and Charles Clay, daughter; Marka Holloway, and her brothers; Royal Merle Hanning and William Mack Hanning.
