Obituary For Nelda Sue Sprenger

Nelda Sue Sprenger was born on November 12th, 1937 in Corsicana TX, to Bruce and Verda Copeland. She grew up in Sherman, but throughout her life lived all over the world, including Morocco where her first son was born, spent many years of her life in Miami, and eventually moved back home to Sherman.

Nelda was known for her generosity and thoughtfulness; close friends and family will remember her sense of humor, silliness, and fondness for sending gag gifts back and forth by mail (think: melted spatulas and burned potholders). Nelda enjoyed phone calls with family members, telling stories about her travels, sharing terrifically terrible jokes with loved ones, taking her granddaughters shopping, caring for her roses and houseplants, listening to classic rock, and watching the birds and squirrels on her back porch. It goes without saying that her careers as fitness-wear model, skydiving aficionado, and cowgirl made her a legend.

She was beloved by neighbors who became family members, all the neighborhood kids from Miami, and her many Facebook friends who looked forward to her witty comments and words of encouragement. Her friends and former neighbors love to share memories about the “old days” in Miami with Nel—feeding squirrels, smashing fleas on the family chihuahuas, making pickled watermelon rinds and mango chutney, and watching Nelda keep score at her sons’ baseball games and serve as chauffeur for all the neighborhood kids.

Nelda was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, and is survived by her sons Keith (Michele) and Shawn (Stephanie), daughter Kim, grandsons Nick and Max, and granddaughters Izzy and Sophie. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Services will take place at Dannel Funeral Home on Saturday, June 11th, at 2:00 pm.
