Obituary For Norman Field

Norman John Field peacefully went home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, May 5, 2014. Norm was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 17, 1929. He spent his growing up years in Philadelphia and graduated from Drexel University in 1951. In 1952 he began his career as an industrial engineer with Campbell Soup Company in Camden, NJ. He was relocated by Campbell Soup to the Paris, Texas, plant in 1964. In 1976 Norm joined Anderson Clayton Foods in Dallas, Texas, and was named Plant Manager of the Sherman, Texas, facility the following year. He also managed the Anderson Foods plant in Jacksonville, Illinois, before retiring to Lake Texoma in 1990. A man of great faith, Norm served as Senior Warden at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Sherman and later at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Denison, as well as Chairman to the President’s Council at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Illinois. He also served as treasurer for a time at Lakeway Methodist Church in Pottsboro. A contributor to his community, Norm served as a board member for Wilson N. Jones Memorial Hospital in Sherman. In Jacksonville, he served as Director and committee member for Elliott State Bank, Board Member of the Sherwood Eddy YMCA, the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, the Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation, the Jacksonville Area Industrial Corporation and the Heartland School of Business. He further served on the advisory committee to the Illinois College Business School. Norm was an avid golfer and he enjoyed boating on Lake Texoma. He took great pleasure in walking lake roads and reveling in lake views and sunsets. His greatest joy was being with his family and friends. Norm’s steadfast love and care, his wisdom, his easy-going nature and his sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and share life with him. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Sarah Elizabeth (Betty) Fields, his first wife, Anne Burgoyne Field, and his precious daughter, LoriAnn. In his later years Norm was richly blessed with life and love. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 13 years, Mary Evelyn. Others cherishing his memory include his children: daughter, Linda (Steve) Hartman of Akron, Ohio; son, Steve (Martha) Field of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren Jennifer (Ed) Tople, Jeffrey Hartman, Elizabeth Field, Rebecca (Wes) Gunn and Shelton Triplett. He is also survived by Evelyn’s children: Tom (Sherry) Jaco of Dallas, TX; Marc (Vicki) Jaco of Plano, TX; Richard Jaco of Round Rock, TX; Cindi (Bob) Douglas of Van Alstyne, TX; grandchildren Garrett (Ashley) Anderson, Jasmine (Keith) Jaco, Lindsey (Steve) Justice, Austin Jaco, Jenna Jaco, Shawneen (Todd) Ricke, Jason Jaco, Kelly (Justin) Rogers; and 22 great grandchildren. Additional survivors include sister-in-law, Jean Bishop of Elmer, NJ, cousin, Jim Clapp of Philadelphia, Pa and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating Norm’s life will take place on what would have been his 85th birthday, Saturday, May 17, at 11:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 401 N. Elm St, Sherman, TX 75090. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorial donations to Home Hospice of Grayson County, 505 W. Center St, Sherman, TX 75090.

    Steve and Linda, We are so sorry to hear of Norm's death. In fact we were just talking about going to Sherman to visit him. It has been about a year since I talked with him Norm gave me my start in the business world and then we became good frieds. He and Ann and our friendship with them are some of our fondest memories.
