Obituary For Norman Hawkins
Norman A. Hawkins, 83, of Sherman, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center in Sherman. A family visitation will be held from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 2nd, in Dannel Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 3rd in Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. Rusty Sherry of Western Heights Church of Christ will officiate. Mr. Hawkins was born September 4, 1931, in Barbour County, West Virginia, to Alva C. and Nila Maxson Hawkins. He married Janice Hullett on December 19, 1953 in Denison, TX. He attended schools in West Virginia, Phoenix College in Arizona, NCO Academy at Langley, VA, and the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Mr. Hawkins entered the US Air Force in 1951, and after services in Europe, Japan, Vietnam and stateside, he retired in 1975 at the Homestead AFB in Florida. He worked for Young Oil Co. and AutoZone after retirement. He was a member of the Western Heights Church of Christ and the Travis Masonic Lodge #117 in Sherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers and numerous aunts and uncles. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Janice Hawkins; son, James Hawkins, of Allen, TX; daughter, Dr. Marcia Hawkins, of Kentucky; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Brown, of Sherman, Dr. Linda Trice and her family, of Arkansas, and Irene Hullett, of Denison; grandchildren: April McCain(Travis) of Sachse, Chrystal Billing(Adam) of Plano, and Jamie Hyepock of Barbourville, Kentucky; great grandchildren: Annabelle Koen and Dylan Koen, both of Barbourville, Kentucky; and special nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial donations are appreciated to any charity organization of the donor's choosing.
