Obituary For Otis Benoist

Send Flowers Otis C. Benoist, Jr., 78, of Whitewright, Texas, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Texoma Healthcare Center, Sherman, Texas. Mr. Benoist was born February 7, 1938 the son of Hannah Ames Benoist and Otis C. Benoist, Sr., in Grenada, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Grenada High School (John Rundle High School) class of 1956. He was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Sherman, Texas. He proudly served in the United States Army for six years serving four of those years stationed in Germany. He also served in the National Guard in Mississippi. He worked more than 35 years at Texas Instruments as an Engineer, working on Radar Systems around the world and worked on various Missile Systems during his employment. He loved the time spent with his two sons Otis, III and Christopher camping and enjoying the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a nephew m Blaine Benoist. He is survived by sons, Otis C. Benoist, III, of Kansas, Christopher Ames Benoist and wife, Nyla of Japan; Yolande Roy Benoist of Whitewright; brother, William Benoist and wife Rachel of Florida; granddaughter, Lillian Benoist of Kentucky; nephews Brent Benoist and wife Karla, Justin Benoist and Jacqueline Benoist all of Florida; and Niece, Beth Benoist of Florida. A family visitation will be Saturday evening, April 30, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church with Rev. Samuel Messima (a very close friend) officiating in Grenada, Mississippi with a visitation one hour prior to service time. Inurnment will be held immediately following the service at Woodlawn Cemetery of Grenada, Mississippi with Military honors accorded at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Children's' Miracle Network, Foundation of Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital, 611 Saint Joseph Ave, Marshfield, WI 54449 or Soldiers' Angels, 2700 NE Loop 410, Suite 310, San Antonio, Texas 78217. Otis enjoyed being a prankster and one of his favorite quotes when someone would ask him "How are you doing?" he would reply with this phrase "I'm fine but I would be better if I had a million dollars and a bottle of Whiskey". Local Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas. Harper Garner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Grenada, Mississippi.
