Obituary For Patricia Anne Dannel

Funeral services for Patricia Anne King Dannel, 79, of Sherman, Texas, will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Sherman with Rev. Michael Langdon and Rev. Joe Ed Goolsby officiating. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, November 3, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Dannel Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be John Elmore, Kirk Dressendorfer, Jack Dressendorfer, David Dressendorfer, Charles Dannel, and John Dannel.

Patricia was born on March 17, 1941 in Liberty, TX, to Bassett and Anita King. She and her sister, Pamela, were raised in Dayton, TX, and attended schools in Dayton, graduating from Dayton High School. Pat attended Texas Christian University and graduated in 1963 with a BSN in nursing. She became the school nurse at Fairview Elementary in Sherman and also served as a nurse at Texoma Medical Center in Denison and Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman. She became the nurse for Campfire and worked for several doctors at the Essin Clinic including Dr. Emmitt Essin and Dr. Van Jackson.

She met and eventually married John Carlton Dannel II on Dec. 27, 1966, in Hopkins Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Sherman. They had 3 children, Frances Anne, Sarah Louise, and Charles Oliver. She eventually attended Texas Women’s University and received her MS degree in Nursing. She taught nursing at Grayson County College and El Centro Community College in Dallas, as well as TWU in Denton. In 1997 Pat attended the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service and became a licensed funeral director.

When her husband passed away in September of 1997, Pat assumed the responsibility of running Dannel Funeral Home. She continued to be involved with the family business until her retirement in 2017. It was during her tenure that Dannel Funeral Home was recognized by the Texas Folklore Society for a century of service and also received a Texas Historical Marker.

Pat was involved with many organizations in Sherman including the Needlework Guild, Current Review Book Club, and Campfire Girls. She was a past member of the Sherman Service League and volunteered as a leader for both Cub Scouts and Camp Fire, serving as the nurse at Camp Rio Roxo. She was also a long-time PTA member, serving schools where her children and grandchildren attended. She taught classes in the SAVE program at Grayson County College.

She worked tirelessly in serving people throughout her nursing career and funeral service, always with kindness and courtesy. She was a determined and strong-willed woman with the ability to leave a lasting impression on those she encountered. Pat loved people and showed her love by easing their suffering and allaying their fears. She will be missed but her family is glad she is reunited with her husband whom she has missed every day since his passing.

Patricia is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and sister-in-law Martha Dealey. She is survived by her children: Frances Anne Dannel of Sherman, Sarah Dressendorfer and husband Kirk of Round Rock, and son Charles Oliver Dannel III of Sherman; six grandchildren: Madelyn Shank, Jack, Josie, and David Dressendorfer, and John and Natalie Dannel; sister, Pam Rasmussen and husband Klint of Alvin, Texas; sister-in-law Mary Langdon and husband Rev. Michael of Dallas; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made in Patricia's name to Home Hospice of Grayson County.

Dearest Dannels I'm so sad to read this. How do you put into words that would describe Mrs Dannel. Stylish, wickedly funny, stubborn, beautiful and sassy. Those sly sparkling eyes. I'm sure the reunion of your parents was fabulous. Just thinking about her makes me smile. Pat Dannel was one in a million Love to you all Mare-Mare Garrard

Charlie, Francis, Sarah, I write this not as a sympathy and not as a mourning greeting. I write this with enthusiasm as an incredible celebration of your mother's life. Although I did not have the opportunity to know her at the level that my mother and several others in Sherman did, yet just having known her and your dad have been an absolute blessing in my life. Having shared times at St Stephen's as well as with you and Sarah and Francis have left indelible marks on my life, ones that I will cherish forever even though not an extensive amount of time spent together, those memories that will last a lifetime. Pat was always a very kind and gracious lady, casting a ray of sunshine on lives she came in contact with, especially in times when things weren't the greatest in our world, yet always had a sweet smile on her face and a fresh positive outlook for the many people's lives were touched and changed. With you, I celebrate your mom's incredible life and please feel comfort knowing that her and your dad John and Father Garrard are all up there this morning celebrating life and the accomplishments of their kids and former fellow parishioners. You guys are blessed to have such a mom. Enjoy this day so much, as not a gathering to mourn, but a gathering to CELEBRATE such an incredible life. Yes she will be missed, but what a legacy she left. All the BEST and LIVE WELL! Blake Judkins

We are so sorry to hear of Pat's passing. Pat was a very personable person & made you feel comfortable ,no mater where you were. I lost my job in 1986 & she helped me by giving me a part time job at the funeral home. It was a life saver for me because it helped me put food on my table. She will be missed & we will meet again someday. GERALD & LINDA CALLAHAN

Frances, Sarah and Charlie, we are so sorry for your loss. Pat was such a loving, caring, giving Southern Belle of Texas. She cared for so many in the earlier years through her nursing career and was such a blessing to so many during her career in the Funeral Home. She was always ready with open arms for those who just needed a hug. Our thoughts and prayers are being lifted for your families during this time of great loss. We are saddened we will be unable to attend the services because of Dennis' latest hospital stay. Dennis and Ann Hill

When my children were growing up, they looked forward to visiting their grandmother in Sherman because she lived next door to the Dannel family on Washington Street. Once the kids were out of the car and had said hello to their grandmother, they went racing next door to be welcomed by Pat and to play with their friends, the Dannel brood. I don't think there was ever a time that Pat did not welcome them with open arms. She was always ready to drop what she was doing in order to entertain them, feed them, or otherwise supervise them, and they loved her like a second mother. Pat and I spent many hours discussing the ups and downs of childrearing. Pat was such a vivacious, practical, loving and caring woman. She will be truly missed. Beverly Bryant LeMaster

Charles, So sorry to hear this. Pat was a great help to me when my parents died. I liked her, and I admired her for taking over the business after John died--probably not something she had planned to do. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
