Obituary For Patricia June Mitchell

Patricia (Twyford) Mitchell January 22, 1933 - June 4, 2022

This isn’t the end of a love story, because love lives on. While our hearts are breaking for the loss of an amazing wife, mother and grandmother, Patricia June Mitchell will forever be in our hearts. Instead of mourning her, we’re choosing to celebrate her life. Patricia June Twyford was born on January 22, 1933 to Ruby Zelma (Ross) Twyford and Johnnie Franklin Twyford in Sherman, Texas. She was one of three children. The middle child between older sister Betty (Popplewell) and younger brother Herbert. It was in June of 1949, that this 72-year-old love story began. Patricia June’s friend, Pat (Martin) Little wanted to set her up on a blind date with Everett Mitchell of Southmayd, Texas. Everett was a friend of Martin’s boyfriend. As the story goes, Patricia June didn’t really want to go, but she gave in. Pat was a self-professed ‘city girl’ and didn’t want a ‘country bumpkin’. Call it fate or destiny, but Pat told everyone, the minute she laid eyes on Everett, she knew he was 'the one'. At one point, Patricia June had another suitor coming to visit, but he was too late. Everett and Pat decided to elope! They told Pat’s parents they were going to the Big D Jamboree in Dallas. When Everett picked up Pat to head to the alter, Pat’s mother, Ruby, said the two looked like they were going to get married. Well, they did. The two were married on May 13, 1950 in Durant, Oklahoma. Both were just 17 years old. They kept their marriage a secret for two whole weeks, until Pat finished her junior year of high school. Because it’s her claim to fame, we have to mention, she was very talented majorette and drum major in school.

Everett will tell you Pat was a fabulous homemaker and mother. But when they first got married, she could barely boil water. He had no idea she couldn’t cook. That’s okay, he’ll tell you he only ate three things anyway. Everett says Pat’s friends also knew her as a ‘professional shopper’. Pat and Everett enjoyed traveling the world together and hitting the road in their motor home. One of Pat’s favorite places in the world to visit was their vacation home in South Fork, Colorado. Pat loved God and the church. She and her husband did missionary work in South America, building two bible schools. Pat was also a lifelong member of the Assembly of God church. Pat was called home by the Lord on June 4, 2022. Pat and Everett spent exactly 72 years and 19 days on this earth loving each other as a married couple, but this isn’t the end of their love story. Love lives forever.

Pat Mitchell is survived by her husband Everett Mitchell of Sherman, Texas and her three children. Her daughter Paula Perkins and husband Glen of Sherman, Texas and two sons: Steve Mitchell and wife Brenda of Denison, Texas and Tim Mitchell and wife Lisa of Sherman, Texas along with 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Harvest Time Assembly of God in Sherman, Texas. Pastor Nathan Cain will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Friendship Cemetery in Sherman. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman.

Pallbearers for Pat will be Shane Mitchell, Nate Vargo, Armando Lopez, Travis Tate, Glen Perkins, and Kevin Miller.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harvest Time Assembly of God at 222 South Heritage Parkway, Sherman, Texas 75092 in Pat Mitchell's name.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Benson and his staff for the wonderful care given to Patricia and her family and also a special thank you to Coatriana Azubuike for her exceptional care of Pat in the last months of her life.

Pat’s service will be live streamed on the HT Facebook page. (Harvest Time Assembly of God Church, Sherman, Texas)

I'm so sorry to hear about Pat's passing. I loved her and I love the family so much. Her daughter Paula and I grew up together as young children and then after my parents divorced I lost touch for awhile until we all ended up in the same church. The Mitchells are some of my favorite people. Glenn and Paula, Steve and Brenda, and Tim and Lisa are the best you'll ever meet; just like their parents Everett and Pat. We are praying for peace, comfort and direction in the days ahead for all of you. Much love, Michael and Sharon Slaughter

My thoughts and prayers and condolences go out to the Mitchell family most couples would be envious of such a long loving relationship. Bret Clark

I remember my sister-in-law Pat fondly. Even though we lived our adult lives outside of Texas we always felt a warm welcome back in Sherman. We had great times meeting to camp together when our kids were young, and enjoyed our retirement trip with Pat and Evertt to Tunisia. I will miss Pat greatly. Prayers for Evertt and family.

We loved our Aunt Pat. She kept the neatest, cleanest home you ever saw. As soon as you entered you felt calm and at peace. She had a great sparkle in her eye when she smiled, and brought calm to any crisis. News that would alarm us average folks would get only a "Well, I suppose" from Aunt Pat. She was a great example to us on how to make a marriage work. We will miss you.

Pat was a very dear friend, going back to when we were teenagers, but thinking we were grown! She meant a lot to me when we were both young mothers. She has been a great friend in my life when I needed one the most. I will cherish our friendship, always. Dorothy Murphy

Pat and Everett were wonderful neighbors to us when we lived across from them. Kenzie was 4 and our youngest. She would go knock on their door to "play" and Pat would feed her chocolate covered raisins and put makeup on her to make her beautiful! Pat was an amazing baker. My husband and I have birthdays a week apart and each year she would make us a chocolate cream pie which we enjoyed so much! We have never had neighbors like them! We love Pat and know she is in pain no more!
