Obituary For Patricia June Mitchell
Patricia (Twyford) Mitchell January 22, 1933 - June 4, 2022
This isn’t the end of a love story, because love lives on. While our hearts are breaking for the loss of an amazing wife, mother and grandmother, Patricia June Mitchell will forever be in our hearts. Instead of mourning her, we’re choosing to celebrate her life. Patricia June Twyford was born on January 22, 1933 to Ruby Zelma (Ross) Twyford and Johnnie Franklin Twyford in Sherman, Texas. She was one of three children. The middle child between older sister Betty (Popplewell) and younger brother Herbert. It was in June of 1949, that this 72-year-old love story began. Patricia June’s friend, Pat (Martin) Little wanted to set her up on a blind date with Everett Mitchell of Southmayd, Texas. Everett was a friend of Martin’s boyfriend. As the story goes, Patricia June didn’t really want to go, but she gave in. Pat was a self-professed ‘city girl’ and didn’t want a ‘country bumpkin’. Call it fate or destiny, but Pat told everyone, the minute she laid eyes on Everett, she knew he was 'the one'. At one point, Patricia June had another suitor coming to visit, but he was too late. Everett and Pat decided to elope! They told Pat’s parents they were going to the Big D Jamboree in Dallas. When Everett picked up Pat to head to the alter, Pat’s mother, Ruby, said the two looked like they were going to get married. Well, they did. The two were married on May 13, 1950 in Durant, Oklahoma. Both were just 17 years old. They kept their marriage a secret for two whole weeks, until Pat finished her junior year of high school. Because it’s her claim to fame, we have to mention, she was very talented majorette and drum major in school.
Everett will tell you Pat was a fabulous homemaker and mother. But when they first got married, she could barely boil water. He had no idea she couldn’t cook. That’s okay, he’ll tell you he only ate three things anyway. Everett says Pat’s friends also knew her as a ‘professional shopper’. Pat and Everett enjoyed traveling the world together and hitting the road in their motor home. One of Pat’s favorite places in the world to visit was their vacation home in South Fork, Colorado. Pat loved God and the church. She and her husband did missionary work in South America, building two bible schools. Pat was also a lifelong member of the Assembly of God church. Pat was called home by the Lord on June 4, 2022. Pat and Everett spent exactly 72 years and 19 days on this earth loving each other as a married couple, but this isn’t the end of their love story. Love lives forever.
Pat Mitchell is survived by her husband Everett Mitchell of Sherman, Texas and her three children. Her daughter Paula Perkins and husband Glen of Sherman, Texas and two sons: Steve Mitchell and wife Brenda of Denison, Texas and Tim Mitchell and wife Lisa of Sherman, Texas along with 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
