Obituary For Peggy Marie Knight
Peggy Marie Yowell Knight—also lovingly known as Mom, Grandma, Granny Peg, and Mamaw—passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, at the age of 94.
She was the kind of person whose quiet strength and steady kindness left a lasting mark. Peggy lived with grace and humility. She showed up for others not through grand gestures but in the simple, meaningful ways that defined her—through her faith, her presence, and her genuine care. She had a rare gift for making people feel seen and valued.
To know Peggy was to experience gentleness wrapped in grit, humor, and heart. She never
waited to be asked—she simply did. A lifelong believer in the power of community, she poured
love into her family, her church, and her friendships with quiet devotion.
Whether offering a warm meal, a kind word, or doing a sink full of dishes, Peggy found joy in
caring for others. She believed in being useful, doing good, and loving without condition.
Those who knew her—whether for a moment or a lifetime—will remember the light she brought into a room and the comfort she left behind.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Ovell and Pearl Yowell; her beloved husbands, Hubert Knight and William “Dub” Knight; her son, Kelley Calvin Knight; sons-in-law Keith Burchfield and Gary Gullett; and her sister, Naomi Rubarts.
She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Gullett and Sue Burchfield; and by the grandchildren who were her pride and joy: Doug Briggs and his wife Miranda, along with children Brianna, Evan, and Cody; Erica Briggs and her children Hayley and Bryson; Michael Briggs and his children Molly and Nolyn; Jessica Burchfield and her husband Sean, along with their son Ethan; Jenna Reading and her husband Andrew; and John Burchfield and his wife Carly. She also leaves behind many beloved members of her extended family, her church family, and dear friends—each of whom carry a piece of her light forward.
A time for family and friends to gather and remember Peggy will be held on Sunday, June 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas. A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, June 30, at 10:00 a.m. at Luella First Baptist Church, followed by a graveside service at Luella Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Peggy by performing an act of kindness in her memory, or make a donation to the Luella First Baptist Church in her name.
