Obituary For Rachel Preston
Rachel ‘Honey’ Corine Mabary Preston passed away at the age of 59 on November 23, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Anna, TX, surrounded by her loving family. Her memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday December 14th at Dannel Funeral Chapel in Sherman, TX, officiated by Pastor Dennis Henderson. Rachel was born in Denison, TX on January 17, 1954 to Frank & Wanda (Hunter) Mabary, who preceded her in death. Her grandparents were Charles & Cora Hunter and Frank & Bertie Mabary. Rachel is survived by Brent, her husband of 20 years; daughters, Jennifer Phelps & Jessica Cotten; stepchildren, Tylene Hamilton & Bryan Preston; grandchildren, Garrett Morris, Madison Ulmer, Caleb Cotten, Tanner Lantz, Triston Hamilton, Ashlyn Preston, & Blake Preston; brother, John Mabary; and sisters, Shirley Hill & Toni Campbell. Rachel graduated from Denison High School in 1972 where she took photography classes and was very proud to be part of the Drill team as a Stingerette. At DHS, she was in the Vocational Office Education program where she worked half a day at Diaper Jeans Co. Later, Rachel attended Grayson County College, taking courses of interest with her daughters and sister, Toni. Rachel was very gifted, full of life, and had more ideas than time in which to do everything. She was a true Jane of all trades. Her many vocations included stay-at-home mom, seamstress, upholsterer, cake designer, crafter, handyman, carpenter, landscaper, and secretary. She retired as Court Coordinator for the 59th District Court in Sherman, TX. She was an entrepreneur at heart, opening a home-based business in Wisconsin and a storefront business in Sherman, TX. It was never if she could accomplish something, but when or how. Rachel loved animals big and small. She rode horses, raised wild birds, trained her golden retriever, provided homes to both domestic and feral cats, and also raised chickens. She loved to watch them grow and play. Rachel’s truest love was for her family. She was kind, nurturing, and loyal. Rachel was the neighborhood’s favorite mom as her daughters grew up, chaperoning annual Brownies’ trips to horseback riding camp and frightening children at Halloween parties. Later she was seamstress to her daughter, Jennifer, sewing and embroidering her wedding dress. For Jessica she was cake designer, baking and decorating her wedding cake. She frequently cared for granddaughter, Maddy, creating arts & crafts together. She took great pleasure in preparing her home with Brent, decorating their Christmas tree to bring warmth to Thanksgiving and Christmas family gatherings. These are merely glimpses of the love that Rachel had for her family. Rachel was a member of Sherman Bible Church. She will be remembered as a woman of faith, providing sound advice and strength to family and friends. Her strength and faith in the Lord carried her through her final days. She was surrounded and cared for by those who loved her over the weeks before her passing, laughing and loving along the way. She will be greatly missed by all, but is now eternally peaceful and blessed. Honorary pallbearers for Rachel’s Memorial are Ernest Chaney, Alan Cotten, Jack Griffin, Heath Leeder, Dennis Neal & Dave Ramsey. In lieu of flowers, Rachel’s family asks that you make a donation to the ASPCA in honor of her love for animals.
