Obituary For Richard Dickerson

Richard (Dick) A. Dickerson, 90, of Denison, TX died, Friday, September 11, 2015 at Clyde W Cosper Texas State Veteran’s Home in Bonham, Texas. Family visitation will be held Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman, TX. Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church, Denison, TX with Reverend Keith Taylor officiating and interment to follow at West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, TX. Mr. Dickerson was born, July 15, 1925 in Alba, Texas to Pearl Laverne Arnold and Richard Huton Dickerson. In 1945 he joined the army and spent time serving his country in Europe until his honorable discharge in 1947. On March 31, 1948 he married Rosie Jane McVay in Bonham, TX and she preceded him in death August 10, 2012. On December 26, 2013, he married Carolyn Moran Harris. Mr. Dickerson and his wife Jane owned and operated B & B Paint and Body Shop in Sherman, TX for many years. His retirement from the auto body repair business was short lived and he started North Texas Auto Appraisals working as an independent appraiser for several years with a short stint working for State Farm Insurance Company in the Dallas area as a claims appraiser for one of their drive in claims centers. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, spending many happy moments sharing the great outdoors with his friends and family. He spent many hours reading and learning about Pecan grafting by planting and grafting many pecan trees at his home in the country. He became a Christian in his early adult life and was a dedicated Sunday School Teacher in the Junior High department for many years at Central Baptist Church, Sherman, now known as Grayson Bible Baptist Church and Adult Sunday School teacher at Southside Baptist Church, Denison where he was a longtime member. He loved his church family and was dedicated to the Great Commission of spreading the word to all who would listen. His love of family is felt so deeply and strongly by all, but most especially by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He dedicated most of his life to serving others and his outgoing personality touched all those who crossed his path. He was a member of Billie Mosse Lodge #1152 in Denison. There he served as chaplain for many years. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, and formerly a member of Travis Lodge #117 in Sherman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; mother & father; brothers, Jesse Willard, Oman, Carl Clayton, and Rudolph Dickerson; and sister, Ruby Marie Dickerson; brother-in-laws, Herman and Merriam McVay. He is survived by Carolyn Harris, of Denison; daughter, Ann Hill, husband Dennis of Denison, TX; Grandchildren, Richard Hill and wife Mendy of Whitewright, TX, Karen Hill Hodgdon and husband, Lindsay, of Denison, and Brandon Hill and wife, Cassidy of Hinton, OK; Great Grandchildren, Kobie Hodgdon of Camp Lejeune, SC, Calven Hill, of Weatherford, OK, John & Jack Hill of Whitewright, Kelsey Hodgdon of Denison, TX, and Cadence Hill of Hinton, OK, brother, B. W. Dickerson and wife, Ruth of Sherman, TX, sisters; Elsie Ellis and husband, Gene of Bonham, TX, and Gladys Stone of Savoy, TX; brother–in- law J. D. McVay and wife, Clyde, of Irving, sister-in-law Ella McVay , of Bonham, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandchildren: Richard Hill, Karen Hill Hodgdon, Brandon Hill, great-grandchildren: Calven Hill, John & Jack Hill, Kelsey Hodgdon and Cadence Hill.
