Obituary For Robert Gunn
Services for Robert Gunn, 70, will be held 6pm, Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Dannel Funeral Home, 302 South Walnut Sherman, Texas 75090. Robert went to be with his Creator on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 in Sherman, Texas. Robert was born June 4, 1947 to Charles and Iva Phipps Gunn at Wilson-N-Jones in Sherman, Texas. At the time of his birth, Charles and Iva resided in Howe, Texas. Through-out Robert’s childhood, his family moved from place to place (California, and Nevada, to name a few) due to his Step-father’s, Lee McGuffee, employment changing. At the age of 9, Robert accepted Jesus as his savior. With the help of his step-father, Robert (17) enlisted in the Navy. While serving his country, Robert obtained his G.E.D. and fought in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1970. Robert married the love of his life, Katherine Caple, June 21, 1968 on a US Air Force base in Charleston, South Carolina. Robert obtained an Associate Degree from Grayson County College and Bachelor Degree at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Upon college graduation in 1979, he was employed by Texas Instruments (T.I.) as a technical writer. Prior to leaving T.I., he became a supervisor in the H.A.R.M. missile program. Starting in 1995, Robert worked for MCI WorldCom (Dallas, Texas); Market Street Deli/Food Service (McKinney, Texas); and Tyson Foods (Sherman, Texas). He retired from Tyson in January 2012. Preceding Robert in death, his mother, Iva Phipps Richards (Sherman, Texas); wife of 43 years, Katherine Caple Gunn (Howe, Texas); brother, William (Bill) Gunn (Cartwright, Oklahoma) and sister, Barbara Gunn Fry (Huntsville, Alabama). Left to cherish his memories are his stepbrother, Jack King (Southmayd, Texas), two daughters, Michelle Armstrong and husband, Chris (Sherman, Texas) and Marjorie Jordan and husband, James (Denison, Texas); grandson, James R. Jordan and wife, Monica; granddaughters, Shellby and Catelyn Armstrong, and Mercedes Jordan (all from Sherman, Texas); nephews, Scott Fry (Eatonville, Washington); Matthew (Redding, California) and Jesse Caple (Littleton, Colorado); Thomas Gunn and wife, Samantha (Sherman, Texas); Daniel WallowingBull and wife, Madonna (Sherman, Texas) and Andrew Crosby (Garland, Texas). nieces, Laurlee Fry Lau and husband, Steve (Laceys Spring, Alabama); Myria Fry (Huntsville, Alabama); Tamara Newcombe (Valrico, Florida); Christina Finch Hammit and husband C.J. (Denison, Texas) and several great nephews and nieces. The family requests memorials to be made to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.
