Obituaries

A graveside service for Robert Neal Bench, 86, of Sherman, will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Arledge Ridge Cemetery in Bonham, Texas. Pastor Mark Posey will officiate.

Neal was born on September 14, 1935 in Bailey, Texas, to B.F. and Cora Bell Bench. He was raised in Bailey and attended Bailey schools. Later in life he attended Grayson College. He went to work after graduating high school then he met and eventually married Martha Jane Alexander on June 23, 1956. They had two children, a son Larry and daughter Lesa. Neal went to work for the Texas Highway Department for over thirty years before retiring. Neal also had his own land surveying business, Wildcat Surveyors in Sherman for many years.

Neal loved nature. He loved watching deer, birds, and all wildlife. He would watch the eagles fly above the Lake Texoma Dam. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, a good steak and a cold beer. He was a good cook and a great dad. He could figure out how to fix anything but it might include bailing wire. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Neal was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and three sisters. He is survived by a sister, Mildred Wilder of San Antonio, Texas; son Larry Bench and wife Susan of Denison; daughter, Lesa Walt and husband Lee of Luella, Texas; four grandchildren, three great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
